Excellent choice! 👍

Though it did get attention at launch, I get the impression that this LE is still underrated, especially in comparison to the ST1 which was also released the same year. What I mean is that though we get to see many owners’ pictures of the ST1 online, I don’t see a lot of posts of the 60th (or is it just me that gets that impression?).

I remember that there were two main gripes about this piece when it was launched: the color of the lume and the price. The former is about taste and thus subjective. But, I think the majority will agree that in this case it works. For me it is how it compliments the shade of the dial. The grey nuance is only appreciated if one owns and lives with it on a daily basis. I mean look at the photos in the OP. Gorgeous!

On the price, one can definitely debate the premium for the same movement dressed up differently. However, I would liken this to vintage 5513s. The value is in the dial, hands and case (other parts as well, but you get what I am saying). That is again down to individual taste and if one sees the intangible value in that. However, one aspect that Omega did market through their Instagram page and warrants due credit is how they used tomography on the original museum pieces to get to the specs of the 60th. And of course the manufacturing must have meant added cost as well. So there is some tangible R&D cost associated with this one. I find this aspect the coolest bit about it. Of course, I don’t know if this was enough to justify the 2x over the original speedmaster.

I have rambled on a bit on a topic that has probably been done and dusted. But these thoughts were constantly at the back of my head when I was reading different opinions on this piece and I thought I’d share mine as well. 😗

Enjoy the hell out of it OP!

Full disclosure: ST1 was my first speedmaster and when I saw the 60th, I was literally torn because it was just as fabulous. I couldn’t afford both and besides, the 60th was long sold out. Then one day I was walking past the only AD where I live and they had one in the display. This was like a couple months ago. I immediately walked in and grabbed it. ::psy::

I bought mine this week. 2017 was a ST1 year for me also, so could not afford both of them in the same time. But i was thinking about it many times and when it arrived at my OB, I visited them on regular basis to try it on and take closer look. Then, ST2 came out and I had some difficult choice to make..I ended up with 1957 and I don’t regret 😀 as much as I enjoyed Ultraman and I think it’s a great watch, that will be very respected by collectors, it turned out that it is 1957 that has become my 2018 Speedmaster!
