The secret of good comedy...... is timing....and a good hotel needs to run like clockwork. Basil was always just behind the beat and also a woefully inadequate snobbish social climber .... which got him in so many hilarious scrapes... so what watch did he use / it seems to feature in a few episodes.......

Glad you ID’d it. But whatever you do, don’t mention the war!

You mentioned it once, but I think you got away with it.

@88cut gets the credit for the ID.
I watched the Waldorf Salad episode last night... a gross caricature of Americans in the UK ...all loud, opinionated and brash..... ‘’Can't get a drink after 3:00, can't eat after 9:00! Is the war still on?’’ …damn don’t mention the war (well you all started it :0)

Funny thing is it had another good watch shot.... the whole point of the episode is that the kitchen shuts at 9pm.... but by Basils Seamaster I would say it was 12:41 or 19:02.... no wonder he kept scewing up so much.

I might send my 176.007 back now as it is...............Fawlty :0)

Dry sherry…. What else.

The first episode is the best first episode ever made. Sybil I forbid you to open that safe. Sybil I forbid you to take that case out. Sybil I forbid you to open that case 😁

I'd go for 12:41 -- the time of filming the scene. What reason does a hotel owner have for needing a chronograph to the props department, but there are very good reasons for anyone in the movie or TV business to wear one. So my guess is that was Cleese' own watch.
