258 straight 6

Had it since 1977, 43k original miles. Dovetail car hauler to/from camping/hunting.

Cool drop tail- gate, too

Same 258 ci IL-6 (4.2 litre) engine as mine which also has a Borg Warner SR-4, 4-speed, floor shift transmission, positraction differential, hatch back (2,500 built). Had it since new, but much money spent on it. 170,000 Kim's (just over 100,000 miles. AMC rocks!

It was 1988...

If I recall correctly my payment was $87 a month.

🤨::facepalm1:: sums it up.

They got a lot of really short people to stand around the car in that Yugo ad.

Didn't succeed in giving the illusion of size.

The mighty Holden Kingswood HQ - bought the HQ in gold (white top) new in 1974 for circa AUD1800 I think at the time - the bottom one is for sale at $16,000 (tell him he's dreamin') bought a couple in the late '80s for around $600.

Must be this one for me a true icon the Fiat Panda

A complete rust bucket , recall having to use a hair dryer in the morning on the delco or it would never start on rainy wet days.

Funny story, spent the night not at my house (you can figure why) not letting my folks know and the damn thing would not start in the am so I could make it back on time to the house so they would not notice. Big fail.

A true piece of crap that makes me appreciate all of cars I have owned ever since

Sorry. I just saw the AMC, and it brought back memories. I had a 74 Javelin with a 258, that would spin wheels. I don't have any idea what kind of horsepower it would put out, but can't help but thinking it would have been a cool ride to add fuel injection by today's standards.

As a Bond fan, and reason I got into Omega (although when this car was 1st in the movie, Bond's watch of choice was Rolex not Seamaster)

And even though I am not a fan of American cars, I always liked this one (67 Shelby GT500)

What a car!!
I was driven to the church for my wedding in one of these.......

I worked for Chrysler Jeep Imports for the re-introduction of Jeep to the UK market in 1993. We then had just the XJ Cherokee and the YJ Wrangler. The 4.0 Cherokees were a lot of fun - easily driveable like a go-kart. Subsequently we got the Grand Cherokee and the Viper. I notice that there's now been a further re-launch with what I call 'soft' styling and rather louche new girly colours (!). The cars of my era were pretty crude - the U.S. factory people used to refer to them as 'trucks' - but had soul and integrity. I suspect that the new incarnations are largely style-gimmicks - like the Speedy LEs (Silver Snoopy and CK2998) I'm always moaning about.

And how about that lamentable "Jeep" made by Fiat? Now THERE'S a go-kart!

Yes, that's what I meant to say - it's now just a brand of Fiat, and that can't be right!

I had one of those. Great in the snow and could carry lots of camping equipment off-road. At the time, the torquey 4.0 was the only inherently balanced inline six on the market...other than those offered in BMW sports cars.
