Submitted my Genève model for service at Omega. It was sent to switzerland for almost 9 months but oh what a result! Strangely enough, they did not offer a new band with service, but I had to request it afterwards (another month's wait). But I couldn't be happier with the results!

Nice to hear that you are satisfied with the result! 👍

Would be interesting to see some 'before' pictures as well...

Mind you, it was a Speedmaster before Omega Servicing got their hands on it. 😉

Hello! Above all, it was broken before omega did a service. What do you mean with it was a speedmaster?

Yes I know! I didn't think about that, have been looking around in my photo piles. It was well worn, my grandfather got it after long and faithful service in the early 80s. Incredibly scratched glass and a strap that barely held together.

Around $550, I got all the parts they replaced along with a nice service box. Pure bargain compared to a new steel bracelet for my speedmaster day date mk40, $900! And then a service on top of that, total close to $2000 (declined a new bracelet though).

Omega service can be a bargain if you need a lot of parts replaced, but I wouldn’t give them any of my vintage pieces.

So it looks the same? Just a service and new crystal?

Omega has got a reputation for being a bit over-enthusiastic with servicing, changing the appearance of some watches quite dramatically in the process and making them seem less authentic. So it was a dig at them.
Your watch is really beautiful and I’m glad they did a great job for you.

Yes, it is the same, slightly lighter because the oxidation on the gold case has been polished away.

Baffling...

The part at the red arrow has no functional purpose, so cannot wear - it is just a spacer (substitute bridge is the official name) that fills the gap where the automatic winding system would normally go, since this is a manual wind (1030). It has no visible damage or defect from the photo, so why replace it?

And yet, there's more...

There are two of the same part (date corrector lever) in the bag of used parts...the movement only uses 1. 😕😕😕

Aha I see, it is as far as I can see exactly the same now as before. Then it will be interesting to see what my mk40 speedmaster looks like when it comes back

Apparently Omega service center has a bin of old parts, and they just randomly throw a handful into a plastic bag when they return a watch. Just sort of a goody bag. 😁

Nice spotted! I haven't seen that before, maybe I got a bag of loose spare parts that they had lying around
