Is it legal to knowingly sell a fake VC, even if you disclose it as such?

No. They'd probably just get told off, but I'm surprised they don't have a policy in place to stop this.

There are some dodgy, small auction houses out there with very low standards.

It’s pretty damn ridiculous that the company allowed it online with “replica” in the title.

I've got the rope, whose got the tree?

One of our local auction houses frequently auctions "replica" watches and they are often labelled so, or to the best of there ability to spot them.
I recently missed out on the opportunity to get a super fake Green Hulk, it really had me guessing and them too, I was keen to buy it out of curiosity to see what the movement looked like given the extreme attention to detail of the outside.

Generally auction houses specialising in collectables (jewellery, watches, art, antiques, memorabilia) steer clear of repo items as it belittles their status. It's the general auction houses (clearances, white goods, equipment etc) that will have no compunctions in moving them on (qualified or inferred)
