Hi all,

I recently saw someone offering this Omega for sale, and was wondering if it was actually a real Omega before I decide on purchasing. There’s only a few pictures although.

Thanks for all of your help!

Why do you think it might be fake, have you done any research?

Looks good to me. I have a 1342 that’s a little older and the dial, case and movement are consistent:

I have a 1342 in a different case and this looks good to me. TBH these late 1970s early 80s watches are so poorly regarded (here anyway 😝 ) that faking them is a good way to make a small fortune out of a large one.

If it is not working with a new battery walk away, if it wont reset from the push button in the crown (which is fiddly even when working properly), walk away. Anything you have to do above and beyond changing the battery will exceed the value of the watch. These are bottom rung material on the Omega ladder I am afraid and can be cripplingly expensive to get fixed. I speak as a former owner.

I’d also add that even if all of the above is fine, you might find that it runs slow anyway. Mine does.

It may be adjustable for rate, I never looked into mine closely enough to find out how but maybe it is. I wasn't suggesting that the 1342 movement is junk, I actually like how you can see the components on these, more so than the fully integrated later quartz ETA stuff but no one holds parts for these any longer and Omega themselves if they will touch it (and I think possible even they don't now) will charge mega money as these fall into the restoration category I think. Certainly the like of STS are no longer accepting them AFAIK.

Omega ADs will send them to Bienne, at a cost about 2x eBay value. I had mine done that way because 1) I didn't know there were independents who could fix them, and 2) I'd owned it from new so was prepared to live with the expense. There are indies who work on them but I don't have any bookmarked. @padders is absolutely right though, if it doesn't meet those full criteria you need to have serious love/lust for it.
