I bought a -69 smooth back from a pawn shop. It has a shiny case back! I originally thought it was over polished. But suspicion grew now I looked it longer. I believe the movement etc is right. So right now the question is just the case back. Attaching some pictures here.

Just looks like odd lighting to me. What are your concerns?

Dial shot and serial number ?

Concern is whether the case back is fake or not.

Don't think you need to worry.

Pics of the movement and dial/bezel will remove all doubt.

Yes I understand that, what about the back is worrying you? But as I and @watchknut said the proof is in the movement and dial/bezel as the caseback appears to have no issues, unless you are seeing something we are missing.

Have seen fakes including caseback for Seamaster 300 but not Speedies. Hope it doesn't come to this but with speedies being a hot commodity at the moment, i'd wager it is only a matter of time but i hope i am wrong.

Pawn shops usually polish everything poorly, I wouldn't be surprised by that.

I am still surprised it can be polished to such an extent that it starts to 'shine'. :)

Update. I took it to the watchmaker and got a picture at the movement. Everything is fine. I was told most likely the previous 'overhaul' guy did not have the proper brushing tool to make it look right after polishing. And it can be easily 'fixed'. So it will be done. Oh, now I put a glass back on it to look at the movement whenever I want. :)

To me personally glass case back looks completely off for this watch. One of the reasons I am not a huge fan of new Speedmaster moon watches. If it's temp thing while original case back is fixed, fair enough, but as a permanent thing, not for me. :)

Nice watch, the rest of it though. Enjoy

I actually agree with you. It is just for fun fact while the shiny one is re-brushed.

Are those the original hands? I only ask because the lume on them doesn't look like it matcheslume on the hour markers. I'm no pro, just kinda stuck out to me.

    Nice find btw!
