Hello gents. I am extremely green and have a fairly, at least at face value, simple question.

What seems to hold more weight when it comes to choosing an Omega? I’m looking at two currently. A Seamaster 2846 7 SC 2848 that is well patinated and has the 501 movement. I’m also looking at an Omega deVill Seamaster 166.020 with Türler stamp and 562 movement.

The question is, if both are in good working order, should I go based on aesthetics or movement? More appealing to my eye or the one with the more advanced movement?

The deVille Seamaster is about $200 less than the other.

Thanks for you time and insights.

    Marty

PS. Being a member of several other forums, I know there are always rules for posting. I apologize if I violated and of those rules *tips cap*

I would always go with something that appeals to my eye more. You will be spending much more time looking at the dial than you will the movement.

Thanks man! That’s what I was thinking too. I appreciate your input.

I’m leaning towards the Seamaster 2846 with 501. I can’t stop staring at the dial and the patina.

I would pick the same any day. That patina is lovely, the DeVille looks quite bland compared to it-- and it's not even pristine, there are little spots and blemishes on the dial which make it unattractive IMHO.

Agreed, the 2846 is a classic with those lugs and dial layout. Can't go wrong with that reference.

What is the seller asking? That would be my final determinant.

PS Not sure where you're buying from but you need to make sure you follow all of the other rules / precautions involved in buying a watch.
Look at the thread "Learn how to fish", you need to make sure everything is okay with the various parts of the watch - I'm not an Omega follower particularly despite being here so have no clue what's the correct movement for your reference.
Also you need to make sure you check out the seller.
If you're buying on line there's a whole set of things you need to do to ensure you don't get scammed.

Interesting! To me the first watch goes beyond patina into the realm of 'damaged.' To my eye, I would much prefer the De Ville.

Just goes to show this hobby is a very personal and opinion based one!

Anyone else notice the 501 2846 second hand is a replacement?

And, as above, those prices are crazy.

I'd rate the 2846 at $400 tops. Poor dial condition, wrong seconds hand and...

The DeVille perhaps $500, with the additional value being in the bracelet
