Regrettably, yes. I have asked Scotland Yard to look through their records of watchmakers to identify the perpetrator 馃槈 but he may not still be with us as it is a 60+ year old watch.

Maybe they can also identify this Richemont service center watchmaker who left his finger prints all over this IWC...

This kind of stuff drives me crazy. It's not like it's a difficult thing to keep your grubby fingers off the parts FFS!

They also did a shitty job of the service, so I had to put it right.

Cheers, Al

Of course in the dive watch community, this type of patina is called "tropical", and is widely valued. I do happen to like this example...

Awesome watch, the way the date sits on the dial is cool!

I like this watch a lot too but I wonder how legible this watch is with those long indexes so similar to the hands. 馃榿

No problem when "new", though I am biased as it is my favorite vintage dive watch design. The second one, which I also own, is a later version, and perhaps the designers addressed the very issue that you brought up. I still prefer the earlier version, though!

I agree with you, Tony. From a design standpoint, the later version succeeded but took away aesthetically. The earlier version is much more pleasing to the eyes. It is so interesting to see these little changes over the course of the history of the watch. Thanks for sharing!
