"Explorer dial" Seamaster

This Seamaster just landed. I'd love to hear any opinions and/or insight. As far as I can tell(guess), it's 1958ish. That's based solely on the inscription. I read and reread the how to fish sticky, but may have missed something. This guy looks legit, but my wisdom pales to the majority here.

Looks like a 2848, its had some polishing but not terrible. The seamaster on that dial is not what I'm used to seeing. I've only seen one other with that looping S and tail on the r but that's not to say it's wrong. The hands, dial and markers look correct as does the crown. I wouldn't pay more than 500 for it and that would depend on when it was last serviced. If it needs a service you may have to spend another few hundred on it. Probably uses a 501 movement which is a real work horse.

Thank you for your opinion. I paid less than $500 so it appears as though I didn't do too horribly

Pretty darn good deal at $500. Dial looks good, case looks sharp and the Omega buckle is great bonus.

Forgot to mention that the central second with the inside minute track is my favourite dial variant.

Is this reference a front loader as I don't see anything on the case back that would allow a tool to catch?

If it's a 2848, it's a press in. Even if it's not, I think it's a press in.

On the opposite side to the crown there should be a groove cut in to the case back that would allow a tool to pop the back off. It's just a snap on.

I think it’s a 2767 with probably a 354 bumper movement. It’s not a 2848 since that’s the sub-second case reference. It could be a 2846, but the case back style looks more similar to a 2767 than a 2846.

It looks nice to me. The dial is pretty nice and the case looks sharp. I’m not a fan of presentation case backs, but if you don’t mind, then it seems like a good deal.

Keep out of there. Nothing good can come from messing around in there.

I didn't think the bezel was big enough to be a 2767 but you may be right and the photos just make it look a bit thinner. Could also be a 2577 at this rate.

Thanks, definitely hear the bumper inside

I agree. I'll see how it runs for a day or two then see if Al will give it a work over when he's done with my 2254

2577 would be a screw back, this is a snap back.

With the exception of some of the 2577 reference versions that didn’t have bevels on the lugs, I have a tough time differentiating these cases from the front.

I also have a Bond bracelet for mine, swap them back and forth also with the official rubber straps too. 😁

The dial is fine. That S shape is a legitimate variant.

"Explorer dial"?
