Explorer 5504 dated 1959 dial discussion

Hi all

I hope you won't mind giving your opinion on this 5504 explorer. The dial is unusual and possibly a fake but would appreciate your input.

serial dates the watch to 1959, cal 1530 inside.

I have added microscope pictures of the text if that helps!

Having the explorer text above the six is unusual and can't find another example online which makes me think it's possibly a service dial where they have added the word explorer onto the dial perhaps?

I haven't looked closely at it, but the T SWISS T is obviously not consistent with 1959. A service dial would be the best-case scenario, since there is basically an entire industry converting 5500 Air-Kings into fake Explorers. What is the context of your question?

Yes well I would assume the t-swiss-t would have correlated with a later added service dial when t-swiss-t was being used but as you say chances are slim at best. I've heard of the many 5500 explorer face ups. I'm assuming that goes for 5504's too?

Context? I bought it for less than the movement is worth and am just doing my research on it, hopefully picking the brains of much more learned people than myself of these and dials in general 😀

Which lume is on the hands? , on the dial? A lume-shot? Do you have a picture from the back of the dial?

Trit on both i would assume. No glow when blasted with a torch, dont have a UV light unfortunately. No i don't but hope to get one when it goes into my watchmaker in a few weeks. Will update when i have it.
