Okay, I was gone a year, so I realize a lot can happen. I'm also not very versed in dive watches, whether vintage or modern. So in light of these facts, can somebody tell me why this is worth anywhere near the asking price?:

    Trolling for a Gallet collector.

Unfortunately, that is not a Gallet any more than a Mini is a Rolls Royce, even though both are owned by BMW.

Polished case and a poor redial. Also worth far less.

Having said that, some of his other offerings are not so out of line.

That eBay seller doesn't even actually own any of the watches he's selling.

For reference, that Galco is currently listed on sweetroad.com for ~$920 (which is still crazy, btw).

If one of his listings sells, he buys the watch at that point, and then he makes $500+ simply by acting as a go-between. This sellerPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network is doing the exact same thing (with the exact same watch), for that matter.

It's a classic case of delusional seller syndrome.

Since the same photos are used in both listings, isn't it possible that the same seller is offering the watch on 2 platforms? I've seen many cases where someone offers a watch for (say) $500 on watchuseek and simultaneously has it up for $700 on eBay.

I don't know if that seller owns the watches he has listed (the evidence above is far from ironclad), but seems to routinely list for stupid-high prices.

    It's not.

But these cheaply made, not actual dive watches, that you could get for £50 a couple of years ago because no one wanted them, are now apparently "rare", and "desirable".

Watches of Knightsbridge had a handful of similar up for over £1000 last week... giving those who can't justify £10k on a really ropey Speedmaster, something else to waste their money on.

File this nonsense under "stupid shit that idiots on both sides of the deal are equally dumb for getting involved in", and move buddy...
