Hello members, I am contemplating acquiring an Excelsior Park Monte Carlo with Valjoux 7740 movement. Do any members have one and what are your thoughts on this piece? Thank you.

Hi @x3no . yes I did. I have been looking at them for awhile now, and feel they are great looking watches. I just didn't know how well the valjoux 7740 movements were. You have a great looking watch. That movement looks awesome.

The 7740 is interesting as it is in all practical sense a handwound Buren cal 11/12.
I have not really heard anything bad said about it, and it is much less common to see than its predecessors.
The chronograph design, as it came of the cal11/12, is a Dubois-Depraz job. DD is known for being the "go to" company on chronograph module designs.

I had two different watches with the 7740 and liked them very much. The only thing I would pay attention to is the date wheel: If the date is off-center in the dial aperture, it might be more than a date wheel problem.
