Greetings, I know many of us own these watches. I have searched the web and OF in every possible way and all I land on is Gallet World and their useless website as well as one pagers on some of the vintage watch sites. I know there is no MWO or Sala for this brand, but has anyone come across better reference materials? I see these watches for sale and they seem like great buying opportunities but its so hard to be sure one is not buying a franken etc. I'd write to Gallet but they seem to state that they are not interested in inquires. Insights are much appreciated.
That's because there is no MWO or Sala reference for Gallet. As with most of the watch brands, you have to do your own homework to determine what's correct and what's not. It makes the chase more challenging, but the catch is more satisfying. So, build your own reference. Fortunately Gallet was a prolific advertiser, and there are plenty of ads available that span the decades. Here are some to get you started: 1940s: (thanksPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network) 1950s: (thanksPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network) 1970: (thanksPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network)
Gallet ads . Nice. Some of the most useful info in Sala for the non complications is the ads . Thanks.
Hard to pin point the exact years on Gallet, even with serial numbers. Here are some examples. Late 1930s - 1940s (possibly early 1950s) 1950s - 1960s 1960 - 1970s Late 1970s - 2000s Today, the second photo is a Multichron 12HR from 1950s watch that had the dial restored by Gallet recently
Gallet ads are a good source, but be careful. Advertisements of the era are not always unaltered/accurate photographs of the watches being marketed, even though they may appear to be so. I've owned a few Gallet over the years and there is no substitute for looking at a LOT of images and photos to compare and contrast.
