I was following this auction. I think with some TLC it could turn out nicely. What do you think? Bargain or to far gone?
Yes, it does seem to be the very first (130 IPT) case. Not to my taste (I prefer the thicker lugs on the vast majority), but apparently correct. A good overview here: https://www.veblenist.com/magazine/eterna-super-kontiki-1960-1971
That first generation case definitely makes it an interesting watch for a collector, although like @Tony C., aesthetically I prefer the thicker lugs.
I'm thinking of buying a first or second generation but the asking prices of these are going everywhere. Nice watches though. Would be a nice addition to the collection. But it's hard to find one for reasonable money. You need to bring several thousends of dollars to the table. I saw a nice second generation a couple of weeks ago for 4,6k euro. Hmmm. Where did my watch budget go this year? Damn house...
I have a later one from the late 1960s. They are great watches, perfect size for me. I would like to find an original GF bracelet for mine.
These first generations are the only ones without a date which is a must for me and I had never seen one for sale before. I have been able to find less than 5 of these without dates on the internet. Hopefully it cleans up nicely - will post some photos once it arrives
Congratulations. I think it will turn out nicely. Although there are some issues. But for the money it's very nice. The auction ended during the night while I was asleep. Damn Europe. In my head I had a max $ 2500. I think you did well.
they’ve had a few relisted. Color me suspicious when eBay dealers have to relist watches after a flurry of last minute bids. I’m guessing they won their own watches
