Eterna Super Kontiki Diving watch from the mid 1970s. This is the watch made famous through its use by the IDF special forces. It is the definition of a tool watch, with well thought out features for its intended use. The hand set is particularly clever with the hour hand partially blacked out to avoid any distraction from the minute hand while diving. The second hand has a similar treatment by locating the lume pip on the tail of the hand rather than the tip to maintain a clear view of the minute hand.
It has a one way ratcheting bezel, quickset date and screw down crown, as you would expect from a professional diving watch.
This watch has a slight anomaly in that the dial is marked Quartz, and the case is double stamped with two reference numbers, one standard to all these watches and another that I assume relates to a quartz version. This watch has an Eterna automatic movement, as per the 1973 model. I have never seen another Quartz Super Kontiki in this model, just some Hummers. This watch was not sold until 2001, having sat unloved in a Sardinian Jewelers for more than 20 years! It is in superb condition and comes with papers from the original sale.
