I think "supposed to be" is implying some intent that isn't there. Are there some Omega employees who line them up? Yes that's very possible, but I've had a lot of watches in my shop that have never been serviced before (so I'm the first to do anything on the watch) that were not aligned, so they certainly came from the factory this way.

Omega publishes something called "Work Instructions" - these 80 or so documents (more being added all the time) detail instructions of how work on Omega's should be done. In addition there are often videos showing various procedures, and one example I watched one this past week detailed how to fit the new NAIAD case backs on the new ceramic divers. In that video they give specific instructions how to line up the case back, as there are 3 ways it can be lined up, each 120 degrees apart. They clearly illustrate that 2 of the 3 ways are not right, and show you where specific text must be lined up when the case back is installed.

In all Omega's work instructions, there is nothing that says the logo in these crystals must be lined up a certain way. Knowing how anal they can be, if it was something they paid attention to, it would be outlined in some instruction somewhere.

If it's lined up from the factory, it's either the guy at Omega who is anal enough to do this even though he doesn't have to, or it's random luck.

Cheers, Al

I think the most reasonable explanation for the logos not being aligned is gremlins.

I just got a new Speedmaster (310.30.42.50.01.001) and noticed the Omega logo is rotated (top of the curve pointing towards 2 o'clock), so I came here to find out what's going on. Thanks for the fantastic explanation Archer.

Devils advocate: considering Omega clearly does not care about hesalite logo alignment, is it not “anti-specification” to install a service crystal perfectly straight?

I like that in each watch the symbol is in a different angle. Give each watch its own character. That being said, mine is sapphire so I don't know how I would feel if mine was a misaligned hesalite, but I think I would enjoy it.

Now I'm disappointed that my Sapphire Sandwich doesn't have a logo in the crystal, can only imagine what it would take to have one without weakening the crystal. The applied logo on the face is very nice, but only visible when the chrono hand is running. On the other hand, on my wrist over 2 years, literally flawless, love wearing it every day, it's a delight. Did do the clasp update, worth every penny.

Don't know if Omega is being more exact on the New 321 Ed White or not, but the Omega logo is perfectly aligned on mine.

My Ed White and Trilogy Seamaster logos line up under magnification (had never really looked before), my Trilogy Speedy was wonky, and I could see it much more clearly on that domed hesalite.

I sent it in for a service last week so I’ll see what comes back- I know I’d always align something so obvious like that as perfectly as I could

If you want an example of how to do it, look to Rolex.
They've been laser etching their logo within the internal structure of all their Saphire crystals for about 20 years.
But it's at the 6 o'clock position.
The center of the crystal may be in order of magnitude more problematic👎
