First, I have googled this issue and have found similar incidents but no clear answers so I thought I would throw this on a watch forum. ;) Friday evening my wife drove to an event and the garage door opener worked fine. An hour or two later, I left to get some dinner. The hardwired button opened the door but my remote button in the Jeep wouldn't close the door once I backed out. I changed the battery on my remote button and it still didn't operate the opener. The outside wireless keypad wouldn't operate the door either. I made sure I had a key, shut the door using the hardwired button inside and left for dinner. When I came home my wireless button in the Jeep worked. When my wife came home her button in the car did not work. The second overhead door on my garage has a new opener on it and it doesn't work with the wireless buttons but does work with the hardwired button inside the garage. Yesterday I noticed my neighbor in his garage so I asked him if his opener was working ok and he had the same story as I did. We cleared the codes on all of the openers, unplugged them for 10 minutes and then reprogrammed the wireless buttons. The buttons worked once in a while but had no range. Once outside of the garage they wouldn't work. I talked to another neighbor later in the day and the same thing happened to him. He said he was calling out a tech today. Neighbor #1 ran to Home Depot and replacing the whole opener last night. What could cause this? My wife is a bit spooked and I can't give any good answers...............

Lightning strike nearby? Maybe something on the brainboard is half toasted?

We've had a bit of rain but no lightning. Everything else electronic in the house is fine.

It was my only guess. In past I've seen lightning hit...say a block away, and take out a truck scale board. Another at camp, two sites over a strike on the neighbours screen house took out my heater/ac board.
I wouldn't know if any type of power company surge could do that, but prolly can.

Maybe your brain board in the opener is Plug n Play and you could do it?

    Someone hacking maybe?

Seems odd it would happen to three different garages at the same time.

I agree that lightning can do weird things. I've witnessed it but the damage is usually quite random. It will smoke a tv at one house, a toaster at another and so on. The only thing on "the fritz" at all three houses is the garage door openers.............

Power surge in the area? Something affecting more than one house would seem to point to something in the distribution...

I'm guessing you live in either Nevada or southwest CA or Southeast Utah.

Look up. I bet there's a large circular object flying overhead.

The only circular object flying overhead is the halo over my wifes head. If you don't believe me, just ask her!

    Ok
Less is obvious but makes sense. Garage door openers work on rolling codes happens a lot near Vegas and the Tenopah testing range. Something triggered a code switch and air force jamming can do it. You have a large bomber base near you sounds like they tested out their jamming suite near you.

Yep. McConnell Air force Base is here which is primarily a tanker base. It's possible though.

Aliens, don't be silly. Clearly they're testing a top secret plane with a mind control ray.
