When you factor in the state of the case, the crazy bezel, the 7912 with n6 endlinks and the clean movement, I feel like the "Hodinkee premium" is not that high on this one.
Too bad that the dial&hands are not that attractive, otherwise it would have been the perfect Ed White (apart from mine)...

How high do you think the Ed White can go? Will the moon landing anniversary or just the simple passage of time take the 105003 to the heights achieved by some Rolex chrono's? As high as a Daytona 6263 for example?

I know anecdotally of 105.003's that have sold in the $30-40 range recently. Is this the market price? Absolutely not. But clearly an indicator that for particular examples that have desirable qualities or superior condition (or both), people are willing to shell out vintage Rolex-level prices. In fact, many of these buyers are likely the remnants of the "Rolex Only!" crowd, which has now moved on to other brands.

I committed to selling my Ed White once prices hit $25k. I thought that would be around my 50th wedding anniversary. So the idea was to sell and fund the most awesomness trip to Europe. Never imagined prices would go crazy like this and at this rate it might be my sold for the 30th anniversary.

I'm probably the only Ed White owner that is pissed about the price spike. The one I own I will never ever sell, and since it's my favorite model I'd like to acquire another one, but it seems less and less likely as time goes by :/

For the landing anniversary that should be the 105.012 to reach the high... I hope indeed :)

What worries me is the heavily processed photo in the for sale section. The photo in the story is the same watch but barely looks blue. Granted my -76 looks killer in person but bad in photos with a similar patina. IMG_4693.JPG IMG_4694.PNG

Maybe it's just me, but I find Hodinkee's store prices awfully high (ETA: Not just their curated vintage watches, but the straps, etc. on the store itself). They seem to cater to would-be NY socialites with the money to fund five-figure watch purchases at the drop of a hat. The one or two reasonably good buys I've seen are sold by the time I wake up at 0600 Pacific time.

Then again, their articles can be interesting, even if they seem to gravitate heavily toward the most expensive watches. They do have a healthy appreciation for the Speedmaster, so I can respect that at least.

Agreed, and the wrist shot conveniently has a blue sweater which potentially tricks your eye a bit. If you block out the blue sweater with your hand when viewing the pic, it tends to look less blue. Could be a pleasant blue in person but I'd definitely want to view it before pulling the trigger. Sold, so someone is confident in the color.

    Of course!
When I say perfect, obviously, I mean perfect for me (it's a family heirloom which I have "pimped" with the bezel :D)

Yep!... tried it and you're right @AAAKK! In fact it looks quite ordinary without the blue sweater. Very effective. In fact I've now decided I'm not going to gonna photograph my 105.012-65 brown dial again until I buy a chocolate coloured sweater.

Hi @Foo2rama , the photo is not heavily processed at all, the difference in the shades of blue that you see simply comes from the extremely different light conditions. The product image (for lack of a better word) is shot under a very heavy, and unforgiving light, in a full studio setup, whereas the wristshot was photographed under natural light on a cloudy day (yay, NY summer...).

As for the blue sweater, I am definitely guilty to love this color and wear it way too much, but I have added here a "naked" wristshot I just took with my phone to give you a sense of the bezel with a more luminous weather (no processing or filtering there either).
Happy to provide more pics if you wish, or ask someone with actual photo skills to shoot some for you :)

    Thanks a lot,

    Louis
