Ship of Darlinboy thought experiment...

If one or more components of a watch has been replaced with correct and appropriately aged parts can you tell the difference?

If you answered yes - 🤨

Well played @M’Bob. 🍿

I guess all the guys who track changes made to watches in the market are all crazy then...

I am absolutely positively NOT saying they aren't crazy. ::stirthepot::

But, the Ship of Darlinboy thought experiment does not include having seen the watch before parts were exchanged. Sometimes easy to tell the difference if you've seen it before and after. Sorry I didn't make that clear. 👍

In my view the only crime involved with an Ed White or any other Speedmaster is the price they command. And that I can’t afford one. 😡🙁

I wouldn't mind if Omega restored it at their factory

Not a crime. When we prioritize the history of a timepiece over it's functionality and aesthetic, I feel like we miss the point. It's like leaving a classic car to rot because we don't want to lose the patina. Things age and all we are doing is slowing down the process while still enjoying them.

My two pence says that all changes could be recorded in an on-going condition report that accompanies the watch. It would be include before and after photos as well as a justification for the actions. Its a more permanent version of what this thread was all about.

BTW the watch looks great now.

Well put.

Excellent idea, though for me, all that work might tip the scales a bit away from fun over to work.

...and that running history is recorded digitally, throughout time, immutable by using a decentralized data scheme (aka the ‘blockchain’) henceforth? That’s what Watchfid do 👍
