Not helpful since the lug to lug size is different but the 3861 on the black nylon from omega is so comfortable.
I wear plenty of 20mm straps on the Ed White, leather, nato and rubber; they all fit quite easily.

I often wear the 20mm OEM nylon nato; it looks great!

I have the same strap, but I decided to adapt it to 19 mm so that I can put it on my CK2998. All it took is a nail file to file off a bit from the plastic insert on both sides of the black nylon strap, and voilà:

However, I dont’t think this strap would look nice on the EW, it is a totally different style…

Sorry to be a downer, but I HATE straps. With a deployant clasp I guess it's ok, but I'll take bracelet every time. Plus I'm not risking ruining the lugs with a springbar tool.

To each their own, I generally don't like bracelets as they are boring. But it really depends on the watch. An Ed White looks best on a bracelet, a Mark Ii ditto, same for a Mitsukoshi, but ones like the ST1 and ST2, and the 2020 Tokyo's look best on straps. Many owners put their Snoopy on a bracelet, to me this ruins the aesthetic of the package and removes the focus on the watch head, instead it's overwhelmed by the bling of the steel bracelet. A good, custom strap with an Omega DP which accenturates the dial and back is the way to go, imo, and makes the watch unique. But it's all a personal decision, no one cares but the owner. Do what makes you happy.

One thing I do hate, though, is NATO straps. Can't stand them, have tried them, just don't like the look. God bless those who love them. Fear of using a springbar tool shouldn't dictate what kind of strap or bracelet you use.

I agree. I have most of my watches on bracelet, but quite a few on straps. I think the bracelet can take away/distract from the watch itself, as you said, particularly in certain cases.

For example, my 2 tone Sedna Speedy: When looking in the AD I thought it looked ugly/over-exposed on the bracelet (and honestly, was leaning towards the 2 tone moonshine instead!). As soon as the strap version came out, I was in love, and the Sedna-on-strap was a clear winner.

My Denim Railmaster NEEDS the strap, they are bulky/ugly on strap. Many vastly prefer one of the strap options for Seamasters for similar reasons!

Additionally, the strap-vs-bracelet is a bit of a 'vibe' difference for me. Some days I just 'feel' like a watch on a strap, others on bracelet. I have my Hesalite Speedy on a strap for that reason, some days its what I'm feeling.

The TT Speedy on bracelet is ugly AF. The TT on strap looks amazing. If I were to get a TT, I'd go with a strap and then just get the standard Speedy steel bracelet to change it up.

I thought the moonshine on bracelet was really good looking. The moonshine itself is really pretty, though a little plain/reserved, so the bracelet went well with it. The Sedna though was a completely different story. The bracelet caused the 'pink' gold to wash out EVERYTHING and it wasn't to my taste.

As far as a 'change it up', I'm up to 5 (plus 1 incoming!) Speedmasters now (Still working on THAT 12 step program...), and will be at 3 strap/3 bracelet, which makes 'changing it up' just 'switch watches' 😁

Interesting take, and each to their own. I’ve never worried about those things, as I don’t intend to sell and watches are meant to be worn. There is nothing I can do to a watch that cannot be remediated at service intervals, if required.

The "bling" of the bracelet complements the blue bezel and silver dial of the Snoopy. IMO anyway. And NATO straps are terrible.

A lot of excellent points. Thanks a lot!
In the past weeks, I reflected a lot on how I wear each of my Speedmasters, what looks good on bracelet vs strap, and which combination is comfortable.

My conclusions so far, also incorporating my learnings from this thread:
  • I will leave my Ed White on its bracelet. Looks fantastic, and it is super comfortable.
  • I will also leave my white Speedmaster on its bracelet. I bought the OEM black rubber strap as well last year, and it looks great, but after 2 days of wearing it I always switch back to bracelet
  • My hesalite 3861 is a strap monster, and an excellent playground for experimentation. I enjoy changing its strap regularly, from leather to rubber to another leather. I actually think it looks better on a strap and not on its original bracelet, and when I feel to wear bracelet I can always put on my Ed White or white Speedy.
  • My CK2998 will remain on the cordura strap shown above, with deployant.

I also agree on the sentiment about NATO straps 🙂
