Those are the most obvious telltales - together with the shape of the inlay, which should "bend" inwards in a concave form from the inside and stop on the thin "wall" on the outside of the inlay.
This concave form affect the way the numbers looks/were painted on. They were not perfect and straight, but still more than the redone ones - on closeup.
