In my overzealousness to buy this watch I wonder if I am being scammed. I hadn't been looking at watches for a while and when I saw this I immediately offered 1000dollars. After a short period of time I said what the hell and clicked on the buy it now button for the rather weird full amount which you can see in the picture. At the same time I got a 'offer declined' message concerning the 1000dollar offer, which somehow made me think this seller is legit (how foolish). I want that watch but I have a strange feeling about this purchase. I don't like being ripped off.
What exactly is the scam? Ebay automatically cancels any offers once an item is purchased BIN...that includes offers which may be yours.
Indeed, I don't feel comfortable about this purchase. It's a lot of money to me too. Nice watch but I don't trust it for some reason. Maybe I'm wrong but my gut tells me not to carry out this deal.
So you put in a $1k offer, it was rejected, and without you bidding, you suddenly “won” it for $1177?
No I hit the buy it now button. 1177,and 44 cents don't forget. I might be paranoid but I just don't trust it.
You are in the US correct? In addition to the currency conversion rate, I bet if you go to your shopping cart, you’ll see that taxes are applied. I don’t follow why you think you’re being ripped off.
Unfortunately, because the seller is based in the US, you still have to pay taxes (on top of your import tax) on the item in accordance with their state taxes. You can find the info at this link under “overview”
Contact the seller. Communicate your hesitancy. This will at least establish a communication record in the event it is scam. Then you will have no problem getting your money returned,
I have contacted him. No reply. Like I said I don't like the situation. I could be wrong but without communication we drop to the level of dumb beasts.
@Pierre1333 You do realise that depending where in the USA he is he can be between 5 and 10 hours behind your time? Other than buyers remorse I'm having a hard time seeing just what your issue is. You need to remember clicking to buy now commits you to a contract you can make your choice at leisure but once done you don't get the option to back out without any consequences. Not forgetting that if there is actually a problem with the watch on delivery or non delivery you still have buyer protection in place. Marc
I don’t agree with the above. eBay is required to collect US sales tax only applies when the item is shipped within the US to a state that requires eBay to collect the tax (all states with a sales tax, except MO and FL). Shipments outside the US should not be subject to sales tax, but will be subject to customs, GST and/or VAT in the country where delivery occurs. If you are being charged US sales tax, then you need to take that up with eBay. gatorcpa
For some strange reason I'm having trouble topping up my PayPal account via direct deposit. After long conversations with bankclerks they say that a possibility is that I am being prevented to make this purchase. I'm still waiting for the reply from my bank concerning my 'bankcontact' blockage, and the seller. Like I said: I want the watch but things are a bit awkward for me now.
Very easy. Press the button "Contact the seller" and explain your doubts. Also request a new photo with your name written aside. You will have better and more elements to evaluate if there is a scam or not.
