They really need to stop this from happening, it should not be that hard for their tech team

Fully agreed. But they don’t care

A shame! This sharp 18k rose gold 167.005 would have looked nice on my wrist!

Wondering why eBay doesn’t just screen description text and deletes ones with external links.

That was timely. Just received an eBay alert for a vintage Longines being offered by the hacked account. Thanks for spreading the word!

Reported as hacked account. Let's see if they believe us.

If you look at what he sold in the past was electronic car parts totally different stuff he is selling now another red flag. Last thing sold in March, and it was not a watch.

I’ve had it with eBay’s security team. Beyond worthless. As long as they get their fees, they don’t care what gets posted for sale.

I hate when these sorts of scams pop up. For a minute I was excited at seeing a couple rare models listed for auction.

Now taken down
Well done. May I ask what email address you used to reach eBay or did you simply click on the “report this item” button which seems, more often than not, to accomplish nothing.

I tried to contact the owner of the account, which happened to be in the Netherlands. But to no avail.

I bet if you hit the link in that eBay ad you infect your computer with some bad stuff. Glad eBay took it down.

I assume the con is that you can actually pay. This account had dozens of watches for sale. Basically only pics. If their hit rate is 1% and they can keep the account up for 12 hours they can still make a nice ride..

I reported a bunch of this account’s listing yesterday to eBay and got the typical “we didn’t find anything wrong with the listing” follow up notification from them. I really don’t understand how their dumb system is supposed to work. It also actively discourages Good Samaritan help from regular folks who make the effort to report a scam if their efforts are almost instantly dismissed by the company.

The link was likely intended as a way for the scammer/seller to have buyers pay outside of eBay's system. Scammers usually don't stop at just defrauding buyers. Since the account was hacked, the scammer wouldn't be paid through eBay if that's where a buyer sent funds.

There was one seller on eBay that had a high buy now price plus one you bid on. You read the sellers fine print says if you want the watch, they only except the buy now price so bidding on it to get a lower price would be a waste of time.

Exactly what was intended for the scam to work. A mate nearly fell for it too. Even Covid19 will eventually go away...
