I suspect almost everybody knows that I finally got my JLC Polaris a few weeks ago.
I fitted a custom strap that I had made but have never been overly happy with the deployant clasp for a couple of reasons, one it was polished when the original and the watch are brushed and two the release action requiring the pressing of buttons unlike the factory friction fit.
I should also say that I couldn't use the original as they are 19mm and the custom strap is 18mm. Easy, no problem go online and order something that would be suitable. Order complete and received.
Original:

New one:

Side by side:

Easy, all set to go. Be done in five minutes馃槈
All done, but..
The keepers become rundundant with the different style of clasp.
Did think about cutting it off but couldn't bring myself to do that and it would have still looked a bodge.
Luckily I happened to have another clasp, polished not brushed but it was a friction action with no buttons and more in keeping with the watch. Not so bad, easy馃う

Hang on a minute, this one has a tang in the middle where the spring bar goes. Cut the tang off? No.
Modify the strap? Why not, it will never be seen and won't be hard.

Very carefully cut a note in the end of the strap, easy::facepalm1::

All I need to do is put it together now. But wait, how does the spring bar go through the centre tang? It can't you need two 8mm spring bars.
Back online and order馃槜
A week later, all good to go.

Installed

Not perfect but I think better than what I started with馃榾

And the watch. Easy see馃榿

That clasp that doesn鈥檛 need keepers is very clever.

And nice strap, well worth the journey!

Have been eyeing these sting ray straps for a while now! Not sure what is preventing me from pulling the trigger

I have had this one for a while now and will probably buy more for the right watch.
