No, it looks pretty nice, for a redial, actually. I didn't say it was horrible, that was just a Latin expression, maybe a little cheeky, sorry, meaning "horrible to say".

I thought the queen's fave latin expression was 'annus horribilis'. 😉

if you allow me to follow up with my '91 ... (so even newer) 15210 Oyster Perpetual Date ... 34mm of pure beauty

CAM03469_zps7nc0oa9i.jpg

and finally a 2015 Oyster Perp. - in the same lovely dial color 👍

Rolex-Oyster-Perpetual-39mm-grey.jpg

and that is a thing I REALLY appreciate with Rolex ... 4 decades of difference between those models ... but neither looks ridiculous, cheesy or out of place or out of date ...

what other mainstream brand pulls something like that of? ... 👍👍👍

cheers!

Omega. The modern aqua terra, globemaster and sm300 Mc are worthy descendants of their illustrious ancestors, which were some of the best watches ever made.
OTOH, all the blinged out, two tone crap which started pouring in in the 70s, after the end of the golden era, is the pinnacle of kitsch.
P.s.: one more gratuitous pic of my beloved 6605, just to keep the thread alive. 😀

Holy thread bump!

Sure absolute beautys in this thread, I especially love the step dial models, why do Rolex make anything like that anymore? Nothing in the current range appeals to me but I'm thrilled with my dad's old airking which resurfaced early last year and since been fully refurbished.

Never found a thread to share this one(there was a vintage Rolex appreciation thread I stumbled across here a while back but it was stipulated no-date🤔 but this one seems appropriate and about time it was resurrected.

Anyway here's my little Air-King-Date from 1971, ref 5700.
