Dual / Triple references?

Hi, I am literally a newbie on vintage Omegas and am posting my first thread.

I have recently purchased a Connie with caseback showing two reference numbers, 2852 and 2853.
I have found that there are many cases where the watch carries dual, or even triple reference numbers on the caseback - Why would a watch carry multiple reference numbers? Or does this multi-reference number merely indicates tha compatibility of the caseback to the watch?

I got some examples from other fellow's posts here om the forum.

It's when more than one reference share the same case design. Instead of getting different batches produced at a higher price where they may end up with too many case backs with the wrong reference number due to demand issues, they order one type and have a much more flexible stock.

Thank you for your kind reply. So in case of the yellow-gold caseback example in my original post, that caseback can fit either of OT2852 and OT2853, correct? As the case would be identical + made of same material?

If I am correct ref 2852 and 2853 are pretty much the same.

2853 should be the de luxe version (of 2852) with a golden dial

Case should be the same (also with the material)

So assuming the case is gold, (hence the prefix OT), if the dial is gold, it is OT2583...and if dial is not gold, it is OT2582?
