DSotM Vintage Black: Yay or nay?

I recently bought the vintage black, i've noticed that some people don't like it because of the "fake vintage" design. What's your opinion?

I personally don’t think that is the same as faux-tina, because the same tan color is used for the indices, hands, lettering, bezel, AND date wheel. If they wanted to imitate the lume for a vintage watch, it would have just been the lume that was that color.

I see this as more of a color choice, not trying to imitate a vintage watch. I think it is striking.

But I also own a Seamaster 300 MC which kinda started the “faux-tina” trend and I love the way it looks, so I may be a little biased. 😉

Interesting take! I see what you mean. They did name it vintage black tho, so maybe it was both haha. But i agree, i really like the look.

I think it looks good and love the lumed bezel. If it were mine I think I'd try to pair it with a brown racing strap that matches the brown of the indices/writing.
I do too. I bet that looks insane!

Yes, i have a custom strap on at the moment, and i just posted two movement pics to another comment 😁

It is a hard watch to capture on film (I am a big fan of the original DSOTM which has the same issue). Your second picture does it more justice IMHO and I prefer it with the OEM strap. It is a nice and very modern watch which should stand the test ot time without a scratch. I think in this case 'vintage' is just used as a colour monica - a shade level and not an ambition (how could it be with a mostly ceramic modern watch). Omega say it is the mystique of the Earth’s nightlight and its ever-changing yet constant presence that has spurred the creation of the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon "Vintage Black". Marketing talk at its best perhaps, but the end result works well enough for me and it is technically very advanced watch which deserves a place at the top table. I like that the brushed ceramic bezel has a “a Super-LumiNova tachymeter scale. It works well on this version.

is that custom strap 2 tone? can;t make it out in these 2 shots you posted....

Nevertheless....I bet a honey light brown leather strap to match the markings on the dial and bezel would look phenomenal....

This just makes me shake my head. There are countless Omegas that people don't like. Some people didn't like in the past or were failures and are now very desirable.
Remember the first snoopy?
If you like it then that's all what matters. Wear it, enjoy the heck of it and make more memories with it.

Something like this with black contrast stitching would look really good IMO.

This is my favorite SOTM version. Really wish Omega would make ceramic cased Speedmasters (and Seamasters) in a 40-42mm case size. Such beautiful watches, but unfortunately my 6.5 inch wrist can’t pull them off 🙁.

Oh well. I’ll look on the bright side. Omega has saved me a bunch money!

Never thought of that, a 40mm ceramic would be insane! Maybe a seamaster ...

Regardless if it's called "Vintage lume" or "faux patina" it still looks good. And it looks good on most other watches aswell. Sometimes colors just look good together.

agreed, I love the all black ceramic dial with the red lettering.....I tried the Racing model....just too big for my 7.25" wrist.....if they made that in a 42mm or even better a 40mm with that date complication......I would've gotten that instead of the Moonwatch........

A bit of thread drift . I do think the case design and colour means a lot of these watches (including the vintage black) wear smaller than the stainless steel version / similar to a normal 42mm. I also think it is one of the best examples of stunning, radical / cutting edge modernisation while retaining the essence of the vintage design - a very tough thing to pull off. I wear my DSOTM a lot and it still makes me smile (plus no scratches to worry about :0)
.

A little necro thread surfing today. I love the Vintage DSOTM watch. Almost bought one on Ebay, but the seller freaked me out, I think she was a con artist and tried to get me to buy it from her outside of Ebay. Said no dice, and walked away.
