nor do I even have to know much about it I bought it on a whim late one night while living far away from home, and trawling eBay was the least trouble I could get in. Nice thick case, it feels tough. Maybe polished I have no idea. Or care. Great looking and easy to read It just quite possible that the strap cost more when new than I paid for the watch. Nope. I haven't serviced it! If anyone could care to share what year this might have been made I would be grateful. I know there are far more knowledgeable people than me here. I like this watch.
The first digit of the serial number is the year within the decade your watch was made. 2nd-3rd number is the month for 7 digit serial numbers. 7120057 - means watch was made most likely December 1967, 1977 or 1987. The "water resist" marking further suggests 1977 as Citizen used "Parawater" to describe water resistance until the turn of the 70s' (see mine below - made around 1965) Citizen bang-for-buck is ridiculous
I'm going to tick some people off here but, answer me this: How, in the real world, is a Rolex better than this? Can't answer that one huh! 'cause its not.
Yup... totally agree. Didn't cost much and it's on my wrist a lot. Least expensive watch in my collection and I will never sell it. I love looking at it.
My MegaQuartz 32, the first watch I bought off this fine forum shortly after joining it in February 2016. I loved it then, I love it now, and it cost 1/3 as much as my n00b Constellation.
This was one of my first mechanical watches, simple Hamilton that now gets worn around the house when working on house projects. My wife and I are renovating our ensuite bath and so I've been seeing it a lot lately and I still like it as much as I did the day I bought it... cheap and robust ETA movement.
Cheapskates! Just kidding – I have plenty of inexpensive watches that I like quite a bit. In fact, it's hard to know where to begin...
Flat out one of my favorite pieces is the one with the lowest resale value – the value to me is much higher. The patina at the edges like a charcoal-sketch, and the 36mm drilled-horn, Oysteresq case ...it's not for everybody, but it gets me every time.
The Citizen rocks. Only thing which irks the crap out of the OCD in me is that totally misaligned chapter ring Once I saw that in one of my Seiko's I couldn't unsee it. But that has not stopped me loving that watch...
I have no idea how much this cost me new when I bought it back in the late 80's. All I know is it was cheap, as I was a poor student at the time. It's now worth less than a happy meal - but I'll never get rid of it. I wore it when I graduated, and it's the watch I was wearing when I started dating the lady that eventually became my better half.
Can't beat the kind of watch you just enjoy for being a watch ... Although sometimes the cheap ones can really make you smile as much as those that you've lusted after for years ...
Reading this thread title, I immediately went into concerned moderator mode, thankfully it was just about watches
Everyone should have one of these to put the cost of most other watches that you desire into perspective....
I always enjoy wearing this: Smiths deluxe from the 1950's. I think the model they used to advertise the Everest climb and, of course, didn't cost much.
