Came across this white gold Constellation on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-OME...IAMOND-DIAL-/311411318405?hash=item48818f9e85Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

Listed as ref 168.029. If I search the Omega database it shows this ref as a gold capped model, no mention of diamond dial. Also most photos I've seen of factory diamond dials show 3 diamonds as the marker and this has only 2. Another thing I haven't seen before in the letters "om" on either side of "swiss made" on the bottom. Leads me to think its aftermarket diamonds.

    Any thoughts? Thanks for reading.

Omega database is very limited usually showing only one of what are often many different variations for a particular reference.

"OM" indicates the dial is solid gold.

I think the diamonds are factory.

No comment on the dial, but the hands don't appear to be factory!

Thanks for the reply...so all seems good with this one then. I sure like how it looks but in white gold will likely be out of my budget.

Does the diamond dial increase or decrease the value of the watch? I was watching a similar white gold model a few weeks ago that finished around $3500, how do you think this one will end?

Hands are short to clear the diamond settings which are taller than standard applied figures.

I am well aware the the diamond set markers are taller than the other markers. But until someone shows me a similar model with longer hands, I still think those hands are too short. I have just gone through the Omega sections of two collector's guides looking for Omega watches with similar diamond set markers to get a perspective of the hands used. I found two, and the minute hands on both are long enough to pass over the diamond set markers.

This watch belongs to me, the hands look factory. I would have put longer hands on otherwise.
I have not seen any other c shaped diamond dialled watches to compare this to so would love to see the images you have or anyone else has.
    Thanks Michael

    I agree,

I have seen numerous diamond dialled models with the short hands. I would say factory. Here's a 168.004 factory diamond dial

Here is one of the two guide pictures I found of Omega watches with diamond dials. Notice the hands do pass over the diamond set dial markers. The other image I located wound not reproduce well enough to use. It occurred to me strange that Omega would put together a watch with components that (to me) appear to be such a mis-match! By the way, in case you do a double-take on the price shown with the picture of this 18-karat gold Omega, the price guide is from 1988!

Thats an extremely different kettle of fish both in terms of what it is and the era. Omega wouldn't make a one-off version of the Calibre 56x series movement that raised the hands high enough to clear the markers just for the diamond dial option hence the hands.

I would also add that seemingly mismatched parts in factory watches are by no means uncommon for unusual types of Omegas, my personal favourite model to collect, the SMPP has an 18K dial in a 14K case in all three references. And then there's the issue of the hand length on the date at six examples which has been discussed to death in the past.

Very nice C-Case IMO maybe @Superdoc should take a look at it as a partner to one of his new toys :)

    Hey guys,

Since you are talking diamond dials...

Is this factory and if so what is it worth?

    18k white gold case?
I don't think it is a factory dial.
The small hour marker at 3 says you forgot to replace me.

Yes, I believe it is a factory original. Here is another version of the single diamond hour markers.
