Does this band fit the watch? Reconditioning used straps?

Hey everyone so last week I bought this watch. 1955 Omega Cal 500. It came on this very nice Hirsch Stingray band, overall it is in good condition and fits nicely. However, obviously it's pretty gross to think someone else wore this for quite awhile, I don't want to throw a nice genuine stingray band away..... How do I go about cleaning and conditioning it? Also, does it fit the style of the watch or is it too modern looking? Thoughts?

How would you feel about the strap if it had been worn by Emma Thompson, or Nigella Lawson (or regional / age related equivalents).

It won't have cooties so cleaning with a cloth dampened with kitchen disinfectant and wiped dry before applying some leather conditioner should solve any problems.

As to suiting the watch, I think it's too busy and would be better on a casual SS watch. But that's just me.

I do agree, not sure I'm feeling the band on the watch. Hmm what colors besides black and brown should I look into?

Gold coloured? Dark blue wouldn't look out of place, or even red.

Thank you! Will look into red and blue. Quite possibly a darker burgundy/ red brown strap, something versatile but different. Like this
