Does that Constellation gold plated is authentic ?

Hi everyone,

I just discover this forum and it's an very interesting place !

I am new in the vintage wtach game and found this Omega constellation gold plated in the list of the future sell in my local auction house.

The diameter is 35mm, i don't found much of watch with a dial excatly identic, it's seem legit for you ?

I can buy it for 700$ i think. Thanks for your advice, i ask them for more picture, no answer for the moment !

To me the watch looks authentic and in very good condition (from what you can see from this one picture)

Maybe the crown is a replacment but thats only a guess

700 USD sounds like a reasonable price, do you have more information, is the watch in working condition?

Could possibly be a CD 168.004 reference, with a dome dial, mid 60s i guess. Is it rose gold plated ?

My doubt is about the 12 index, it's not the same than i see when i look most of the 168.xxx reference 🙁

And yes for me it seem old rose plated

I think it is Ref. 168.(0)010.

If this turns out to be correct, then the hands were replaced with Omega hands from another watch.

I think you were thrown by @Passover calling me a specialist 😉

I think it is more likely a 168.018 with a flat dial and the correct chunkier pencil hands.

But I think the correct style of crown crown has been replaced with a yellow gold plated crown.

The case is slightly soft but is made up for by being rose gold cap (not gold plated or filled)
If you google the reference you will see a number of examples with this dial and hand set but not in rose gold cap.

As it happens, I don’t know that much about this reference (I’m more into the .004s and .010s mentioned earlier)

I’ll repeat what I’ve said many times before, these later 1960s models haven’t found their market yet but I’m sure they will in the not too distant future - just don’t go overpaying except for a really mint example.
$400 would indeed be a good deal for this watch and because of the rose case perhaps even double that wouldn’t be out of the question.

I think the one I have is very similar dial and hands to yours, different indexes and crown, and yellow gold cap.
I have overpaid for that a few years ago for its condition, with lack of knowledge. Dial damaged. Case in poor shape. Crystal unsigned. Maybe more problem than I can see yet. Lesson learnt today.

$700 seems very reasonable to me. Dial, markers, and lume look good. My only issue is with just how prominently the Omega symbol appears in the crystal in that photo. Nothing wrong with that per se, but that photo is highly adjusted.

Is it OK to piggyback on the OP's query with another one, about a very similar watch (168.005)? I found this one on eBay from a seller with good feedback, but somehow I'm doubtful... First of all, it looks incredibly clean to have what is described as the "original dial never refinished." Second, there is only one "T" after "Swiss Made"--and no T before. And third, even if there's only one T, shouldn't there be lume dots? Would be very glad to hear what people think!

I think the lume 1 T situation is totally fine. My concern would be the softness of the lugs

There are many different styles of constellation, so it’s always best to start your own thread.
In that way comments are focused on a particular style.
@mrbreen is spot on with his response.
The dial looks fine, the single T version is a common variant and there are lume dots at the ends of the indices.
However, the case is heavily polished, with the lugs losing their characteristic facets.
it also has a replacement crown.
Out of interest, what is the asking price for the watch?

Whoops, sorry all for horning in. And thank you for replying anyway. It’s an auction that started at 99 cents, and is now up to about $220. Ends in 4 days. I don’t think I’m going to bid on it, especially after understanding the issue with the lugs…
