Railmaster Trilogy isn't in 42mm, but it's an excellent watch that may fulfill your requirements. It will wear slightly smaller than your Seamaster but retains the heft of a tool watch.

The Longines Spirit is amazing for the money from what I've seen and read.

Great two references by the way OP! I love the Seamaster 300

Thank you for the props on the SM300MC.....

It has exceeded all expectations.... It will rotate in to the watch box, but quickly go back on my wrist.

The color and sweeping lollypop...

I don't think I'll ever go to a small second again....

Frankly, I don't see why a time only watch such as the Ranger should be any bigger than 40mm. That size compliments a 41/42mm diver very well.

For this exercise, my wife appreciates the footprint of the 44mm GMT vs the 41mm of the 300MC... So, keeping all parties happy, the quest was for a "Time Only" with a more like the GMT footprint.

which IWC is this?

Spitfire auto. 39mm, decently thin with the updated 72 hour movement and soft iron cage. The new Mk XX has the 120 hour movement also used in some Baume et Mercier watches and is a nice update, but I prefer the overall dial and size of the Spitfire.

Seconded on the Longines Spirits -- they are superb watches and well-priced for what they offer, especially in the Ti versions.

I hear what you are saying about GMT Worldtimer. One of my favourites but not for everyone. One day I may manage to actually get a good picture of this thing but here is attempt number ?

There is the 40mm Railmaster (too small?)

Or alternatively a watch that I don’t see often on wrists… bit of an out there suggestion given your particulars - but stunning to look at… two counters chronoscope.. 43mm, numbered and beautiful watch.
