As always an interesting topic, after all it has been almost 60 years and it's great to see the watchcharts.com lists
Would be even more interesting to ask the same question for the 1967 Omega Speedmaster 145.012-67 Ultraman

Considering we know that already half-a-dozen (of allegedly only 50 produced) Speedmaster 145.012-67 Ultraman show up in the 1968 SF movie “Marooned The Saga Of Ironman One”. So were these easily available and chosen to look matching with the red helmet and red accents on the astronauts’ space suits?
Especially in a time when product placement wasn’t a thing yet… compared to “The Right Stuff” (1983), “Apollo 13” (1995), “First man” (2018), “Moonfall” (2022) and “Ultraman Omega” (2025).
It would be interesting to know how many Speedmaster Ultraman were used during the making of the late 1960s Japanese Ultra Series “Ultraman” Tsuburaya productions!
From a visit to Omega HQ I remember that in the late 1960s the brand was not contacted by either US or Japanese movie production houses.

This would make a good thread, Phill. It would probably get more traction as it's own thread.

There's been several UMs show up in OF as inherited watches. Plus there's probably a decent amount on the internet in old auctions. That'd be a good start and then others would likely join in. Sounds like between the 6 in the movie, maybe 4 in the TV, 3 or more on the forum, maybe another ten on auction sites, you might be able to identify half of the 50, which would be pretty amazing. Who knows over time?

And an incorrect SW Apollo11, ser nr 2771xxx points to a 145.022 68 as does the Applied Logo dial. Still a nice watch at this price if you can collect it in Japan.

And a SW A11 with sr nr 3100xxx from Japan, a pretty rough example. I noticed a few listings these past months that dont even bother to mention it is a straight writing caseback, maybe this model is not so hot anymore ?

One thing I noticed is that in Japan the SWA11 seems to be less desired than the SW. I attribute this to the SWA11 having been released in Japan, whereas the SW was worldwide and possibly less seen in Japan.

My limited experience is that there are some sellers who simply aren't as familiar with the distinctions.

However, it's conjecture. Condition still trumps other factors. My preference is for a SWA11 over similar condition 145.022-69.

Condition sure is the most important factor and the SW A11 is just a little more special. I think the overall interest for watches is down in Japan, the same seller also has an SW FQ on offer for just € 2950,- / usd 3200 ish.
