(look closely at this one, not what you expect 😉)

Interesting after market dial 😉 what's the story there?

It’s all true 😀 SBCM025, high accuracy caliber 8F35.

Wow that's a sleeper. Neat piece, I bet the size is perfect being smaller then the SKX. Looks like the bezel knurling is perfect, which is my beef with the SKX. With the higher rate does it "sweep" or tick?

Ummm...OK...I'm perplexed..."how-do-it-know" that it's February 28th (and not January 28th, March 28th, April 28th...) and it pans through the 29th, 30th and 31st to the 1st? Pretty cool! 😎

Lots of value and coolness to vintage Seikos

Has a Proof Dial and Proof case back

Have a 1972 6105-8119 Diver in the mail and on its way

New or vintage there are lots to love about seiko plus in relation to other brands they represent excellent value albeit good vintage prices are rising

You cannot have a seiko thread without this iconic model
Look what arrived in the post today after a considerable search to complete the set of dials. This is from December 1976 and on the original stelux bracelet
The family is complete unless I loose the plot completely and start seeking notched cases/gold proof proof/JDM models
I also got this nice 6106 8100 from 1968

It ticks, which I actually like on this one because it makes it feel more “precise”.

I never tried the SKX but I like the knurling on this one: easy to grip and smooth to turn. Although I might be the only person to prefer 60 clicks to 120.

It doesn’t show the month but it’s stored inside the chip. If you pull the crown and push it back immediately it goes through a routine where the date window displays the month for a few seconds and the seconds hand shows the leap year by pointing to the 1-4 hour markers.

The one thing that’s not very good is the crown doesn’t screw in perfectly and I’m afraid of stripping it. The good thing is that I only need to do that twice a year.

Correction to my post above, it should read KVW, as in Klein Vintage Watch. Sorry for my big thumbs!

I'm curious... how does perpetual calendar work on a watch that doesn't display the month and year?

It doesn’t need to display the month, it just needs to know about it, so it’s just stored internally. If you pull the crown and push it back immediately it goes through a routine where the date window displays the month for a few seconds and the seconds hand shows the leap year by pointing to the 1-4 hour markers.

It means that it needs to be opened to set up the calendar, but you need to do that only when changing the battery anyway (if you don’t change it quickly when the EOL indicator starts) and I like how this makes for a very simple dial even with a complicated feature.

SEIKO party in the pointy end of the donut factory a while back...the other donut factory worker knew ahead of time that we were flying together so he wore his SEIKO 'Brown Bullhead'...which he received as a high school graduation gift (circa 1975) from his parents prior to heading off to the USAF Academy. 👍
