Buying a "second hand" watch from a trusted seller is similar to buying a "Certified Used" BMW from a BMW dealer.

Only three of my collection were purchased new. I picked up two Timex Flying Snoopy, one to wear, and I never opened the other just so I can someday legitimately say I have a 'NOS'...and if you have a Flying Snoopy, it only felt natural to pick up Charlie Brown flying his kite! All others have been picked up second hand, and the best of those have been sourced through a few fine OF collectors (thanks again to all of you!).

I lucked on an NOS Soviet era Pobeda in its original delivery box. You could tell it had never had a strap fitted. They delivered these watches sans strap.
Accurate to 2 seconds per week in a 28 day test.

Love the Cyrillic writing made in SSSR! Very cool

I've purchased a few new from AD, they have come and gone and the only modern watch I have is a BB58 as an every day wearer, I want it to age with me. The rest of my collection is vintage, so they are probably 2nd, 3rd an 4th hand!

Well then get off your lazy butt and get busier. 😁
That's the worst, I buy most of my watches when I'm knee-deep in work as a way to distract myself.::facepalm1::

50/50. My newest acquisition is a 2020 Speedmaster Professional. My oldest acquisition is a 1962 Constellation. I do not pay retail for any new watch and I can generally find a better price than my AD. If I can't find a trusted seller on OF for a new model that I want, I go grey.

Out of a collection of about 120 watches (pocket and wrist), I have maybe 5 that were acquired new.

Wow that is some addiction!! Haha

I buy both new and second hand.
Can be a nicer experience buying new, but the second hand price is hard to beat sometimes

All my watches have second hands. ::rimshot::

I generally buy pre-owned. New ones take a 30-60% hit, depending on brand/model.

how many seconds are in a year?

Virtually all my watch acquisitions are second hand.

I have made rare exceptions, here and there.

Since my collecting favourites are all about 50 + years old, I have no option but to buy second (third, fourth .......etc) hand.

[And just to be clear, I prefer sweep second hands to sub-dials].

8 new, 4 pre-owned. That's about to change, because I'm going to sell one of the 8 I bought new.
