But how did we miss this? I think this is the only known example of a 14778. Desmond did'nt write about this one (I think) and I can not find any other info about it. Very interesting.

Also, next to the 14396 it’s the only other no-date ref (and the 14396 was already the least seen of the known jumbo refs, if I recall correctly). Quite an interesting piece, this.

Yes, even the die hard connie collectors never mentioned this model. It's a unicorn.

Ok, I feel sort of relieved that I didn‘t know about this ref. when I saw the sales post. I‘m wondering whether it also exists in stainless steel.

Only gold capped is shown on the Omega Extranet.

Any plan to get extract of archive for this example. For a longest time I have expected a no-date version of 14777 did exist so this is very exciting news for me.

Here is a pic of a 14777 case back. All of the reference images I have collected for the other jumbo's 14777/14395/14396 follow the same format. Here I see interesting differences to the members example for 14778. As this would have been concurrent with 14777 I would expect the case to be from the same source.

The reference font type and size is different and the case makers CB mark is missing.

Could this be a replacement case back?

Found this on another thread here that discussed vintage crystal compatibility:

https://omegaforums.net/threads/vin...ty-and-case-reference-plexi-case-list.123389/

See the last entry. The Ref. 14778 is the same case as the Ref. 167.001 (which is rare enough).

As you can see, there was a lot of changes to case reference numbers when Omega started standardizing them in the early 1960’s.

The case back looks correct, just not made by CB. Omega generally used several case manufacturers. All did things a little differently, so I’m not surprised that the fonts inside are not the same.

Hope this helps,

Hi, @gatorcpa ,
Have you ever seen the ref.167.001?
For me, it’s my first time hearing about that reference, also I can’t find any example using that reference?

Best,
