Different Omega Dynamic Crowns?

Hello!

I’ve recently restored an Omega Dynamic cal.552 reg. 165.039 and I’m currently very intrigued by the crown that fits best in this model because this part is incorrect in my watch.

Officially, having the documentation in consideration, the right crown would be the 43098. However, I came across another example to which I don’t know the reference and (in my humble view) it fits better (in terms of looks and integration on the overall design). The (officially) correct one would be out of the case’s line and the other one would integrate more harmoniously.

Just take the following image (not my watches, just google searched it) as an example of the two crowns, being the official the one on the left and the other the one on the right.

I’m really confused because I own several examples of the Dynamic (elliptical and square shaped) and I never felt the official crown would be the best design for the elliptical model every time I come across the other one.

So, any expert?

Take a look at eBay. I find that if you see a few examples with similar crowns. The odds are they are correct

Ok. The thing is: was there any kind of criteria? Or just availability of new parts/ service parts? Or even manual wind vs automatic?

I have another example of this with a 136.041 that officially came with a specific crown reference even though there are several exemples with different ones - all of them consistent but not identified with the model - according to the parts number reference.

This can be tricky in some cases because a model can be identified incorrectly as not in all original state when that’s not the case…

Well that may be a problem if a crown is discontinued, so just use something else. On the oval shaped model. If you see a few with the same crown as mentioned. What are the odds that they used the same crown. Best parts book used ref. Numbers to find the right crown, but only up to certain date. Sometimes you use what works
