Different Crystal No.s for Seamaster 165.003 and 166.003

I have a 166.003 with what appears to be the original (or at least vintage given the type of logo in the centre) crystal. However, like many of these plexi crystals, it has minor crazing that obviously cannot be polished out.
Various refs on line state my date version (166.003) takes a PZ5143 whereas the non date takes a PZ5014. I’m a bit surprised at this as other references such as the DeVille 165.020/166.020 and SM600 135.011/136.011 both take the same crystal.

Does anyone knows the reason why (height?) and whether the no date crystal will fit the date version? Asking as I have a PZ5014 in my parts but not a 5143.

Thanks Al, so that does confirm the diameter is the same and the difference is the height.
I assume this is to allow for the hands being positioned further from the dial to clear the date window (and therefore that the 5014 isn’t a suitable substitute for the 5144)?

Either will fit the case - I cannot tell you if the shorter one would allow the hands to clear or not - you would have to look at that yourself.

If I can muster the courage to give it a go I’ll report back. Thanks for the help Al
