Before this year, I only wore one watch- a Breitling Colt from 2000. I also had a 1920s Marconi (Rolex) Special tank watch ..and then I purchased 14 watches this year. Mostly vintage. I felt that since I’ve been fortunate enough to be financially able to do this - I’d gift the two I mentioned here. My nephew is a 30 year old SSgt. in the Army who will soon complete his BA degree. He’s made us all proud. I gifted him the Breitling when he was home in Long Island this Thanksgiving. The second watch, the Marconi Special - I gifted to my my church priest. He is a wonderful, thoughtful and very hard working man. It felt great giving away these watches. ...I’ve been blessed to have a great life, a great career and feel it’s important to share this with others...plus it gives the opportunity to share this fun hobby/ lifestyle with them
Happy Holidays all and a joyful 2019..

I had bought a blue bullseye Geneve Dynamic earlier this year to celebrate a promotion and my mom took a real liking to it. So I found the same version with a date and that was in her Christmas stocking :)

My dad just recently started wearing watches again after finding his old Seiko in a tool box. It’s by far one of the ugliest watches we have ever seen, so my siblings and I chipped in to buy him a Seamaster. We’ve never really gotten him a significant gift before, and this one was special. He has worked 60 hours a week for years now to pay for our college tuition, so we had to show him how much we appreciate him. I haven’t been this excited about Christmas since I was little. Giving a great gift is a lot better than getting one.

The Assistant in our office is very good to me, receiving and holding my mail and deliveries for me at the office. She also appreciates watches and has a small collection of ‘fashion’ quartz watches. She once commented that she wouldn’t mind receiving one of my lower priced “chunky” style watches so when the next Massdrop special arrived with the Seiko “Fifty Fathoms” looking watch, I thought it would be nice to get it for her.

I added some bargain straps from @watchdaddy1 along with an extra Bergeon strap change tool I had laying around. Now she has effectively 3 watches in one and she quite enjoys changing them up.

And every time you see her wear the watch- it’ll make you feel good knowing what you did... and that she’s getting enjoyment from it.

    Sahabbaz,
You and I chat about this IWC cal 85x series - and how much we admire and appreciate these vintage IWCs.. that’s a great thoughtful gift of such a tank of a watch.

Ms.1128 (soon to be Mrs.1128!) has been a rock for me these past few (difficult) month's since my Mom passed away at the end of October.

So when I found this lovely King Seiko 5626-7041 (1973) available from an OF member, I knew it was perfect for her and a good way for me to express gratitude for being such a stabilizing part of my life. The best part is that she loves it and it's keeping great time. It is, however, due a trip to the spa ;)

    Congrats. nice story
Btw. I am awaiting my first Seiko ... a KS high beat 36k handwind. Ref 4592-8010. On a pillow case. ... here’s a pic ... arriving from Japan in a week. I hear these Seikos gave the Swiss a run for their money back in the 69s/70s...Great bargains too!!

Really nice looking watch! I agree, great quality at (typically) great prices! I was initially skeptical about the pencil hands, but in the flesh, they are super elegant and are great for reading the time!

My niece visited us before Christmas and showed her some of my collections. She immediately asked me for my Hamiilton King, day/date
cuz she needed to keep track of the day for her job. So, she goes!

Hand winder to a nephew wanting a watch. He subsequently bought a Tissot Seastar Seven monocoque and may, just may, have the first signs of catching the bug ;)

This to my daughter. I saw the stories that it was going to be available, and decided to order it. She liked it when she saw it lying on my watch desk...bingo, it's on her wrist!

I did. Well, sort of. I recently lucked into a 10 drawer cabinet (small) of Accutron parts, Accutron partial movements, Accutron complete movements, cases, bracelets, etc. This cabinet contained leftovers from one deceased watchmaker, and a alsofrom a deceased hobbyist who fancied himself as a watchmaker. Among the case components was an Accutron 218 model, gold filled case back with the hobbyist’s name engraved on it. Elsewhere in the bits was an empty gold filled 218 case with no back, but it had a string tag on it with the same deceased fellows name on it. I pulled a partial 218 movement from the bits, gathered what I needed to return it to operation, located a decent Accutron dial with matching hands, and finished it up as a running watch. Fitted a strap on it and ran it for a few days. Then on December 22 (Saturday), I phoned to confirm she was home, and went over and gave her her late husbands watch. Not knowing how she would accept it, it pleased me to see she put it on. And she seemed pleased.
The picture is poor, but it is the only one I have of the watch.

I was taking photos of this one in preparation to sell it, and my wife confiscated it, so I will count that as a gift. It's hard to see in this photo, but the sub-dials are actually a dark navy blue, and she wears it on a blue perlon strap.
