Did PANERAI just become the 7th wrist watch brand... to be directly exposed to outer space ? ISS Expedition 66 crew, during the January 19, 2022 EVA (spacewalk) Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov probably wore a PANERAI Radiomir wristwatch strapped pver the lefthand Orlan spacesuit glove... Bringing the number of wrist watch makes directly exposed to outer space to 7 different wrist watch brands: (Omega, Glycine, Bulova, Fortis, Fiyta, Seiko and Panerai) Can You guys & girls spot the exact black dial model ? Thx in advance ! Screenshot of NASA footage: .
Looks like a smaller, 42mm Rad, wirelugs. I’m stabbing at 338, titanium, manual, gold hands. Edit: I don't think it's 338, as I only see one line of text on dial. 338 has two lines.
the "news" ( if we can it like that in our esoteric research ) was spread via the SWFG - Space Watches Facebook Group Thus so far 8 wrist watch makes directly exposed to outer space: 1965, June 03 = Omega Speedmaster 105.003-63 ( Gemini IV - Ed white ) 1966, Sept 13 = Glycine Airman automatic ( Gemini XI - Charles Conrad ) 1971, Aug 02 = Bulova 88510 chronograph ( Apollo 15 - David Scott ) 1994, Sept 09 = Fortis Official Cosmonauts ( TM-19 Mir-16 - Yuri Malenchenko ) 2008, Sept 27 = Fiyta chronograph ( Shenzhou 7 - Zhai Zhigang ) 2008, December 23 = Seiko Spacewalk Springdrive ( ISS Exp 18 – Yuri Lonchakov ) 2021, September 03 = black chronograph ( ISS Exp 65 - Oleg Novitsky ) 2022, January 19 = Panerai Radiomir ( ISS Exp 66 – Anton Shkaplerov )
I don’t think this is a Panerai at all. Im no Panerai expert, but this sort of cushion case is seen where in a Panerai? Look at the large expanse of case between the edge of the dial and the case edge View attachment 1358422
I’m leaning toward a 090 type case like with 300 M, having a bezel more like in fact, in the photo, you can just make out some hints of a quarter bezel of red, the large arrow hour hand, etc (here’s a photo with saturation pushed to max)
He is a hard guy to pin down with his watches - one of these might give a clue in terms of case shape? The first one looks similar? .
As an aside is it my imagination of did Dubrov have some sellotape action going on? Good spot for this mission by the way @SpeedyPhill .
Hard to say... He is rarely wearing watches inside the space station, and couldn't find any other picture with a watch this shape (could be seen with Fortis, X33, some digital maybe casio etc) Some more pictures Here we can see the 12 and 3 The crown can be seen better :
Boy, especially that one angled photo of the crown, side does seem like a radiomir crown And several of these new pics appear to show less space between the dial and case edge
Since it's not a Roscosmos issued watch, I wouldn't be surprised to see it pop at auction in a near future with more detailed pictures "Outer space flown watch"
As a slight aside seeing the distance they had to climb down and to watch them work for 7 hours hanging above the earth is impressive. It must be exhausting. .
Since 26 November 2022, the ISS received the new Russian "Prichal" node onto the Nauka MLM - Multipurpose Laboratory Module adding 5 more ports to the space station... Interesting to see another brand of wrist watch being used since the Seiko Springdrive in December 2008... .
