Did Omega stop including watch instructions?

I just purchased a new Speedmaster and had it shipped. When I opened the box I found the three cards in the "wallet" sandwiched between foam inserts where the instruction book would normally be located. Did the AD accidentally leave it out, or does Omega not include them anymore? Admittedly, I don't really need it, but would like to have all the original literature with the empty box that I'll promptly stash away for eternity.

On another note, the Speedmaster booklet that they did include in the package was nice. I'd gladly take it over a 300 page operations manual with 295 of them being in a different language.

The AD left it out. That multi-watch/language red book was included in my Speedmaster box I purchased in January. Just reach out to the AD and they should be able to send it to you if you want it.

More and more products are sold without a paper owner's manual. Eventually Omega will do away with them, but I believe they are still being included at this point. I bought a new Triumph motorcycle in February this year, no paper owner's manual, which is 250 pages. Querying Triumph customer service they said they no longer include them but the manual can be downloaded free from their website. But your friendly dealer can order you a paper manual if you wish, at your cost of course. I printed the relevant pages, about 100, and put them in a three ring binder for reference, but it would have been nice to have one stashed in my tank bag when I'm out and about.

Personally, the Omega manual is pretty worthless, especially for a basic watch like a Speedmaster.

Yea that book was always useless anyway, they'd be way better off just including a QR code and an app or website as an owner's guide, then they could include stuff like videos to demonstrate how certain things work visually which definitely helps with a lot of car owners manuals. I've probably got 20 of those books in my closet and have never even looked at one.

I know we are going paperless, but I love the nostalgia of receiving a physical receipt and manual. Unfortunately, there will be less and less coming from all brands.

The thing that made me suspect they went paperless was the lack of space for a booklet. The cards were sandwiched between foam filler that took up the space where the instruction booklet would have been.

This made me go back and confirm! I JUST picked up a Speedy a few weeks ago. I don't have those two foam blocks, I have the Operating Instructions booklet.

Though I note I did NOT get the leather card holder (the cards just were put under the watch), though I have quite a few of those anyway 😀

The booklet was where my cards were without the foam? It's strange you wouldn't get the wallet!

Yep, I don't have those two pieces of foam, just the booklet and my receipt.

And yep, I didn't get the card holder thing. My cards were under the panel under the watch.

I picked up a white one a few months ago, I'll have to see what I got there. I'm sure my OB will make it right on the card wallet if I ask.

The ink on the cards (particularly the dealer stamps and date) seems pretty sketchy. I have a fear that I'll pull out the cards in a few years to find the ink missing after gluing itself to the wallet.

I didn’t get the wallet either. The cards were just tucked under the flap beneath the watch cushion. I assumed that was just how the Speedmaster cards are provided now. Seems more logical and efficient than that old wallet with more slots than cards.

Good point! Why on earth DOES the wallet have more slots than cards? 😂 I guess you can have a couple of credit cards lined up for the next big purchase!

The 3861 Moonwatch is not supposed to come with the card holder/wallet.

Ah! That explains it. I only noticed when I checked for this 😀 I have so many of those little card holder things between my watches, it seems a little silly anyway.

Mine came with the wallet and no instruction manual. Where do they put the cards then? Do they just throw them in the box loose? This is all no big deal either way. I find the inconsistencies really interesting though.

Maybe this is what happened...they've stopped including a printed manual and started shipping Speedmasters with a wallet and foam to fill the void. ?

Omega boxes have always come with the foam in the side slot. They are meant to be two pieces and in between holds the warranty card wallet. The big instruction books are shipped separately and they are supposed to toss out the foam and replace with the book at the point of sale. Without the foam, the slot gets crushed in during shipping. It looks like Omega kept the two piece foam on the 3861 box since it's the same dimensions as the wooden boxes that do come with the warranty card holder.

3861 cards are supposed to sit here:

Again, such a mystery. Why would they ship a wallet with extra slots for cards. Also, why would you ship a booklet separately and fill the hole with foam to avoid it being crushed when you could just ship the booklet in place of the foam and have no worries about it being crushed? I guarantee that the foam can be smashed easier and compresses more than a booklet!

Thanks for the info everyone. I think I'll move on and call the downloaded instructions manual 'good enough'. I already know how to operate the watch and don't plan on ever selling it anyway.
