Did buying a Moonswatch bring you here?

An interesting comment (see below) in another thread got my wondering, are there new members here who got their first exposure to the Omega aesthetic from the recently released, and hotly debated Moonswatch?

Is finding this forum and getting exposure to Omega’s history and range creating a desire to buy a, dare I say, true Omega?

I’m quite new to this forum but a vintage guy so my draw is different but I am curious as to whether Swatch’s new product and marketing could have a positive effect for the Omega range going forward.

There is much discussion and many threads but I’d love to hear from new converts if they exist here!

Ah, but stop to think about it for a moment. Might it be that the Swatch Group thinks that by introducing the younger generation to an inexpensive watch that has some of the hallmarks of its Omega big brothers that at least some of those buyers will eventually trade up and become owners of the real thing? I believe that is exactly what the Swatch Group is trying to do and from a marketing perspective it's brilliant. I see very little harm that is likely to done to the Omega brand from the MoonSwatch. Quite to the contrary, it may draw addtiional buyers to the Omega brand and that's a good thing.

I'm not here because of the MoonSwatch but I did just pick up the watch buzz recently in 2021. I've always had a watch but never to the extent that now I have a collection and desire others. I found this place looking for info on a vintage Omega after poking around modern watches for a while. My story was more that I wanted a gold watch to signify a career milestone. I was scared of getting beat online, so I went local. I did some research and found this place, posted, found more watches and a great community, then decided to pitch a tent in the corner and stay awhile.

Now ready to buy a modern Speedy and return full circle.

I think I posted this elsewhere but will share again. I’m also new here but not new to Omega. I set my sights on the Speedmaster as my grail watch about 6 years ago when I first caught the watch bug. The MoonSwatch seemed like an attainable short-term alternative but the more I thought about it the more I wanted the real deal. Some other factors aligned as well so I made it happen a few months ago. I had pushed it pretty far into the back of my mind as a “one day in the future” thing so the MoonSwatch hype definitely brought it back. The future is now. Now I’m hanging out with you yahoos and not sure it’s healthy for me or my finances. 😝

Is this because I am going to get burned for bringing up another Moonswatch thread?…
Probably. I have my own opinions on the moon”swatch” but am keeping them to my self since I don’t even own a moonwatch. 😗

No. I came here to read about watches in general. These enablers are bad people. Leave while you can…

Seriously though, if Moonswatch owners decide to upgrade, this is a great place to be.

My brother purchased the Mercury Moon Swatch. I was captivated by its design. As a child, I watched the moon landing on television. Six months and 50 YouTube videos later, I own and wear the 3861 moon watch daily. I joined yesterday.

I was here before the Moonwatch riff raff turned up and crashed our vintage shenanigans.
Now have 3 Speedmasters

Have no issue with the MoonSwatch and thought it was a good piece of marketing to a new audience…

As I have mentioned before….Am the watch guy at work and have witnessed, No watch work mates become Iwatch and Fitbit work mates and eventually become real watch work mates… Helps when you have been there 22+ years….
Had a younger girl who has always shown me a g-shock or the like bought new, she ask me about the MoonSwatch when they came out from seeing them on social media. ( she always helps me with young people speak and knows what emoji’s mean 😁 )

No because the way I see it you might as well buy the real deal. Let's say you decide to buy a used Speedy Pro today. You can wear and enjoy it for many years and can always sell it back at practically no loss, that is 10, 20 or 30 years from now. Luxury watches that hold their value are actually FREE watches. So why would I have wasted $300 on a MoonSwatch when you can wear a real Moonwatch for free ?

I really like the MoonSwatch concept but to some of the earlier comments I'd rather save up and buy the real thing. I recently got really interested in the Omega brand and joined the community to learn more about it, it's possible that the MoonSwatch played some role in sparking my curiosity.

Yeah, kind of. I was a member, wore a Speedy in regular rotation, was an enthusiast as always, but hadn’t posted on here for probably a few years until the MoonSwatch release. Just when you think you’re out, you get pulled back in…

All the more reasons not to buy one. I'd invest in my education and spend the cash on textbooks.

So already I can see as a marketing exercise it has been effective. It CAN be a cheap way for someone to experiment as to weather they enjoy wearing an actually timepiece that is visually pleasing as opposed to a phone on their wrist.

What's a textbook? I get my education from youtube and tictok 😉

Yep, someone had a pencil the other day and boy it’s got to be probably 10-15 years since I used a pencil….

I thought your recent job change was for advancement, rather than out of necessity! :whipped: When you were applying for your new job, did the application ask you why you had left your previous job? 😉
