Did anybody here buy the a386 on eBay last night?

I suspect someone got a nice deal on this one.

The bracelet alone is worth the price. 😉

I went back to check the bracelet. 🤪

That one at Phillips looks pretty good at $23k......if this one goes to the finish line.

Tex- did you notice that this 231 build has the pointy sub-dial hands. Also, notice the crown. This adds another data point to our discussion about the factory using the pointy sub-dial hands during the 231 builds of the A386's

Yes, I did.........And this one is way past mine towards the end of the run.

I almost posted, but then I looked back at it, and could reasonable see it could have been to a service center once or twice.

Wow, I think it will wind up being very nice! I tend to look for these on the bay and guess missed this one as it lacks the a386 in title. Pretty wild price considering the (lack of) photos.

Maybe being a noob and knowing it has some advantages, as I would not have touched a watch in that condition ( based on the pics ) for that price.
I don't say this to be rude to the seller or anybody posting on this thread - just my gut reaction

I see one pic with the chronograph running and one with the sweep second hand and 30min counter hand at Zero but the hour sub hand not reset to zero. So IMHO their are at least some technical problems with that watch. Without pics from the movement and the bad pics from the front not my Thing. But it may turn out to be a super nice looking piece.
Good luck to the buyer.

Looks great at first look, but I don’t have the balls to enter the fight to win the auction, without having the watch in my hands, or to buy it from a watch freak, expert or professional ... that text with “I don’t know what it is... I have no idea of watches” sacares me ...

I think the very reason that this didn’t come from a watch person helped it sell for what it did. I’m sure the buyer had an image of somebody taking this off their wrist in 1976 and putting it in a tackle box in their garage until the seller found it at an estate sale. Dealers and watch flippers are more likely to relume and alter the watch versus the beloved “barn find”

I agree with above completely...This is was a complete "as found 'barn find'" and I do think that it commanded a premium, in part because fresh to market versus some below average examples that trade hands.

Exactly.

I spoke with the seller at length throughout the auction and made a very honest run at it (I tapped out at $14K but was hoping that would be enough to take it due to the picture quality). Whoever won is going to end up with one of the nicest dials that I've seen in a while. The ding on the side of the case and potential sleeve wear (hard to see the chamfers) are the only real "issues" and I have a feeling that after a trip to the spa, this will be beautiful.

Could be a case of a simple crystal replacement and putting on some new shoes.
