Ladies and Gents, A black on gray Rattrapante has come up for sale near me. I don’t know much about the watch and after a lazy search of this forum it seems it doesn’t get much attention. The watch has caught my eye, and at nearly 70% off of MSRP ($15,800 CAD) seems like a good deal. I’m not much of a price speculator and have never sold a watch. That said, the anvil like depreciation of this watch has got me curious: - do we think we are at the bottom of a price parabola; - will prices flatline as they are, like an expired pet hamster; - should we expect a increase in prices? So then Learned Members, what are your opinion on the Rattrapante? My concerns are that the busy dial, whilst intriguing now, might annoy me after awhile. I’ve the same question mark over the case thickness.
The above images were randomly nabbed from the interwebulator. Here is a snap of the actual watch on sale:
This thing is actually available as a quite nice Speedy, the 311.30.44.51.01.001. Ceramic bezel and dial, limited to 357 pieces with the Omega 3612 inside which actually is a F Piguet 1286 with a coaxial escapement added. Double column wheel, all very nicely visible through a sapphire back. I *THINK* this is the first coaxial chronometer Omega made but may be wrong on that. Watch can be seen here: https://www.omegawatches.com/de/wat...tch-anniversary-limited-series-31130445101001 Will probably hold value much better. I know this doesn't help with the decision to buy the DeVille but I personally think that it has a way too busy dial and isn't very pretty.
Yeah, I tend to agree that the dial is too busy and would drive me bananas quite quickly. Well, it looks like I can put this out of my mind and save myself $5K CAD...and another watch argument with the long haired general. As for the speedy rattrapante, I’m a bluff old traditionalist when it comes to Speedmaster: manual wind, moonwatch only please.
Chronos are cool no doubt about it but i don't find myself actually using the chrono function very often on a daily basis
