I recently got this seamaster from craigslist together with a couple of other watches, I don't know if it's real, or really know how to tell. It's a solid watch, feels well made if that's any indication. Do you need any other photos?

    cheers!

Sour apple green? Really? What does the movement look like?

Omega never let a dial like that leave the factory; looks more like what is known as a "Mumbai Special". Would need to see the movement for more verification

That's a pity, I was hoping I had found a nice hidden gem. The screen is actually darker than it looks in the photos.

how would I go about opening it to see the movement? I've got an omega store near my apartment but I wouldn't want to get laughed out of the shop! I'm hoping to one day be shopping there for the real thing haha.

Please don't write this off as a redial just yet. I have seen this same dial pattern and colour before on a TV shaped watch, and it looked completely authentic when I serviced the watch.

If you can open the case and provide the case reference, plus what movement is inside, I will have a look to see if this dial is still available.

    Cheers, Al

    +1

A refinished dial would not have crisp edges on the Omega symbol, date aperture and figures, the edges are almost always rounded off during the refinishing process.

This watch comes from a time (early/mid 70s) when Omega began experimenting with more colorful dials, blues, reds, greens, etc.

I have one at 1973 with a very nice blue dial, cal 166.0163,
the movement should be the same, 1010 or 1012?

Shouldn't it have T's before and after SWISS MADE for the luminous hands and dial? Or is it a some do some don't type thing? Forgive me, still learning here.

Thanks, that's really encouraging. I'll try to get photos of the interior this weekend.

one thing I've noticed is that not every hour marker has a luminous dot. 12, 1, 7, 8, 9, 10 all have. The others do not. Could this be to do with age? Or is it a sure sign of a fake (shoddy workmanship)

    thanks again

That's odd indeed. Even if some of the lume has fallen off, one should expect to see at least some tracks that it has been there before.

You can see it in the main picture (with dog in the background) where the dots are missing, I don't have a hand lense to look more closely on hand, but I'll try to see if i can look for residue later on.
