This is my rather nice Dennison cased 9k Omega cal 267, and for various reasons I am probably going to sell it in the near-ish future -

    Omega cal 267-9.jpg

    The reasons are basically -

    * I've run out of cash, so if I want to buy another watch one of the existing collection has to go, and

    * This watch (the first I purchased) doesn't really fit in with my collecting theme as it has turned out to be

Now then, here's where I need your collective wisdom. The Dennison came with this Omega box which is around the right period (1959, but the box could be later) and this may or may not be the original box. There are no papers or tags.

Similar boxes to this one fetch about £50 to £60 on eBay here in the UK. Do you think I would do better financially to keep the watch with the box when I sell it, or should I split them up and sell them separately?

    Whaddya thunk? ;)

Beautiful watch - pleased I haven't to make the decision.

    Very nice watch!
IMO, if there is even a slight chance that this is the original box, I would keep them together. I think that would add a small premium to the sale. My 2c.

I'd sell the box separately as I doubt the box being included will add £50 to £60 to the sale of the watch.

There are more people willing to spend £50 to £60 for a box than there are people willing to spend an extra £50 to £60 for a watch with a box.

Having said that, if it were a Constellation or Seamaster in a complete set then the the box would add the desired value to the watch.

You see the dilemma. Ethically, as Joe says, if there is a chance that the watch was sold in this box I have a duty to history to keep them together. On the other hand, as Norm points out, nobody is going to pay much extra for the box on top of the price of the watch. So financially I would be better off splitting them up . . .

Sell them separately. I'm not convinced it's the correct box, but that's more of a hunch.

I have a hunch that the box is original. However, there is no way to really prove it.

For most of the unnamed Omegas, boxes were supplied either by Omega or local distributor without watches in them. Many times, the clerk just reached under the counter and gave the customer a generic Omega box.

I think either decision is the "right" one.

Well, thank you for all the advice. I think when I do sell it (and I am in two minds about it, now) greed will win over principle and I shall sell the watch and box separately. But I will sell it in a modern box instead, just to present it nicely -

Then if someone is buying it as a gift, they are good to go ;)

:) You know, posting the pictures here has made me think twice about it. It seems to be so hard to find examples in such nice condition as this, and because it is engraved (it was a presentation watch) I don't think I would get enough for it to purchase something as good to replace it. I've been looking around on eBay for stuff and so much of it is rubbish or priced sky high.

So maybe I will keep the Dennison and look for a pretty cheap watch from my target period that has character but is by no means mint. Just for fun, and to expand my knowledge base . . .

I actually find the presentation backs interesting -- what does yours look like?

Ah, well, I can help you out there -

    Omega Cal 267-3.jpg

Those were the days when you worked man and boy for the company, and could put in fifty years of service. Mr Stead had earned his watch. Percy Lund Humphries were a firm of high-class printers in Bradford, Yorkshire, who specialised in quality art repro work.

WOW! That's a knockout! Is there a thread for presentation backs? If not, someone needs to start one! If I had such a watch, I would ...

I really like that caseback, perhaps that makes me a little odd.i think an inscription adds character to a watch, making it more desirable to me, anyway...greasemonkey...

Lovely piece with some genuine provenance!! Imagine if his name was Ignatius Norman...

Um, to go back to the original thread topic...I would be interested in the watch and box as a set. It would especially be a great pick up. Yep, fully understand the other replies as well. At this time I am a buyer/collector, not yet a seller...
