Gifted to me at the age of 20 (I'm in my 50's now) when my Granda passed.

Wore it at work, broke the glass a couple of times, ending up putting it away for safe keeping to revisit when I was hopefully a little more mature ..

Hoping somebody can advise me on what it is and where I should send it to get 8t restored. Will need a new glass and gasket or whatever holds the glass in etc.

I've looked at pics online and it kind of looks like a lot of others but they all have a seconds hand so I'm wondering whether I bust that or if this one never had one to begin with 😁..

Thanks a lot.

It originally had a seconds hand. You’ve probably broken the centre sweep second pinion. Depending on the model number of the case, and what it is made of, you may also be missing an expensive bezel! Somebody was very foolish giving this to a 20 year old! You need to elicit the opinion of a watchmaker who is experienced with vintage Omega watches. Looks like it has possibilities. Let’s hope you haven’t turned into a “for parts only” watch. Give us an idea of your location, and we might be able to refer you.

UK made Dennison case.

Finding a bezel will be pretty much impossible, having one made will be costly.

But don’t give up hope. If you keep an eye on eBay auctions these type cases come up every now and then - so you might be able to find a donor bezel / case

Thank you.

Pretty disappointed with myself right now so here's hoping.

Thanks.
It’s disheartening absolutely - I’ve had my share of mishaps that are truly gutting. However if you have patience - the soul that is present in this piece can be brought back to life again for your enjoyment. Perhaps you will have to buy a donor watch for parts - but I think as long as you keep the majority of the watch as original to how your grandfather had it it’ll still fill you with joy when you look down at it once the project is completed. Remember the dial is what excites collectors - it is most probably what excited him about this watch too - and fortunately it appears to be in quite good shape.

I think what some may not have noticed, but this is a 9kt gold case. Outside of commonwealth countries. 9kt is not considered gold.

It would be extremely difficult to find a 9kt gold case and if one were to come up for sale on Ebay. You would have to really outbid quite a number of people just for a bezel.

Buying a gold filled model might be cheaper, but gold color would not match

Choice is to have a metal smith who works in gold make a 9kt bezel, but that won't be cheap and best if you find someone that has actually done it before

Can search on Simon Freese who is a watchmaker, but maybe he knows a goldsmith that can do the job if you are willing to spend the money

Also. Sweep second pinion is discontinued, so if Simon knows someone. You could have him service the watch

Making a new bezel is difficult because the exact dimensions are needed. But it will not be so difficult to make a new one, now it is possible to make it according to a 3d model or a drawing with exact dimensions, many jewelers are switching to modern additive 3D technologies.

These 9k cases come up quite regularly on ebay.co.uk - usually sell for around £500-700. If one comes on with a bad dial even better - it'll just be scrap value. Patience is the key component when dealing with projects like this.

Welcome to the forum, since the important aspect of the watch is the sentimental value, another option is to ask the watchmaker doing the repair to recase it at least temporarily in a compatible, period correct steel case. With a movement service and possibly a replacement seconds hand the OP will be able to wear his grand father’s watch in another form.

Family heirlooms don’t have to be collectible in order to serve their function.

Completely different watch so it's highly doubtful, like 99.5%

Oh my lord I'm finding website listings from 2017 selling this watch from £170.00 if only I could find the bits now for that to repair it
