I came across one of these with a blue dial in excellent condition for $10K. I'm still smitten a month later and haven't found its equal online. It's twice as much as I've paid for a watch. Is this De Ville worth it? Opinions and pushes in either direction are welcome.

Do you find it attractive? It’s certainly of historical interest, but I’m really put off by the dial: too much text, a dog’s breakfast of indices… I’m also not a yellow gold person, though.

Point is, I’d only buy it if I really liked the idea of wearing it. If money were no object, sure—owning a watch for historical interest could be fun. But I don’t have 10k to spend on a watch I wouldn’t want to wear, and this one leaves me cold. But to each their own!

Thank you, Annapolis. Good points. The dial is busy. I really like the gold-blue combo (not just on this watch) and the slight piepan dial - it was impressive in person. I've been looking for a Constellation 2852 with kite indices (who hasn't been looking for one?!), without luck, so I was thinking this might be an alternative without as much vintage upkeep. Thank you again for the input - it's been truly helpful to get other perspectives.

Case looks polished. Can't be sure without more photos, but I have a hunch it was rather heavily polished in fact.

What is the referrence? I have both the WG and YG limited editions (999 each) with this dial in white. I hadn't seen a blue dial in this series. There is a platinum model of 100 pieces with a dial that Watchbase calls Bronze but I call Salmon. The WG is 5941.31.31. The YG is 5911.31.22 and the Platinum model is 5921.61.31.

There are a lot more of these than were originally intended, Omega re-released them in a lot of additional forms some of which were nicer than the original. Personally my favorite is the Ref 4531.32 in steel with no date and less writing

Thank you. I do like that 1601/943 Armadillo bracelet as well.
