Datejust dilemma...new purchase!

So I purchased this watch earlier in the week as a xmas gift for my Dad. I began to second guess the purchase because it had the 3135 movement vs new 3235 movement, so I cancelled the order....or so I thought! To my surprise, the watch arrived this morning! Theres a 3 day return policy, so need to decide what to do. It's such a beautiful watch and I love the "roulette wheel" date. Also, the 3135 is a tried and true workhorse. This would be a replacement for his early 1980s datejust and he has mentioned in passing how he'd love to have the latest and greatest DJ to replace his old one (hence reason I was leaning toward the 3235). Any thoughts appreciated...any compelling reason not to keep this one? Is the 3235 that much better? 70 hr power reserve is appealing, but is it worth sending this one back?

He will love this watch, build quality of the bracelets and cases compared to the early 80’s is huge. If he is a one watch man power reserve differences won’t matter.

Yesp, he only wears one watch, pretty much all the time, so good point re not needing the extra power reserve. I'm having an hard time finding a reason to send this one back!

Speaking as a dad, I would say that the fact that you picked out a very nice (and tasteful) Rolex would dwarf other considerations. I mean, if he specifically had requested a particular movement that would be one thing ... but otherwise, I think he'll just be thrilled that you thought of him in this way.

Such a beautiful watch. The more I look at it, the more I think she's a keeper. I think my Dad will love it! I dont think I ever really appreciated the Datjust, but now that I've seen this one and had it on, I might have to get one for myself someday...understated yet elegant at the same time.

I completely agree with this. What I would usually do in your scenario would be to stop by a Rolex shop and be like hey, I really like this one. Which one do you like? And get to talk about watches and see what configurations he like. Especially with datejust with a TON of option.
